Sadly it looks like the Toyo T1-R tyre has been discontinued.

In the 205/50R16 size I need, it seems I have the following two options from Camskill:

1. Uniroyal RainSport2

2. Falken FK452

Can any of you give me your experiences of these two tyres?

Or perhaps recommend me an alternative that would work well on my Chimaera?

Thanks, Dave.

Don't they do the successor - T1 Sport - in that size?

Sadly not.

The Toyo T1 Sport starts at 17" and goes up from there.

http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/proxes-t1-sport-...

It's the same deal with the Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric that replaced the excellent Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 directionals.

Which is what I have front & rear at the moment, sadly the fonts have had it & need urgent replacement due to a slight camber adjustment issue.

It seems 16" is becoming the new 15" for tyre manufacturers, I suspect the demand just isn't there.

The only options I can see at the moment in 205/50R16 are:

1. Uniroyal RainSport2

2. Falken FK452

Camskill were pushing the RainSport2, has anyone tried them?

Apparently they are branded Uniroyal but made by Continental.

The Camkill man says they are a very good quality tyre that offer the same "V" pastern as the old discontinued Toyo T1-R & my Goodyear F1 GSD3.

I had a set of Rainsport 2s on my vRS Octavia last year, stuck like glue in the wet, much better then the T1Rs on the tiv.

I know from a recent thread there is a lot of variation on the tyre sizes people are running but is it possible to use Toyo 205 / 55 or 225 / 50s ?

My rears are 225 / 50 / 16"

I have Rainsports on my Fieats Zetec S and i do 30000 miles a year an excellent tyre!!!
I know it's not a TVR but will put them on my Chimaera when the Toyos are worn out.

Interesting Peter scratchchin

Thanks mate thumbup

Actually I've just found some T1-Rs in my size, but with them being discontinued who knows if I'll be able to get a matching set for the rears in six months time when they'll be up for replacement?

Perhaps it's time to switch to Rainsport 2s?

My understanding is the cheaper tyres like Toys work well on our light weight cars because of their softer side walls?

I wonder how soft the side wall is on the Rainsport 2?

Has anyone actually tried the Rainsports on a TVR?

Rainsport 2s in my size are available V or W.

Although only rated at 149mph apparently the V is more suited to a TVR as it has a slightly softer side wall.

I've never been over 145mph in my Chim, and I doubt I ever will.

145mph seemed plenty enough for me in this car. eek

My insurance company are cool with the V.

What do you think?

I'd go for it, I will consider these when I get a decent set of road wheels.

If W is available I'd always go for that rather than V. Note that even with cars that could have done with a lower speed rating the manufacturers often choose to go for the next higher rating if the car is very accelerative (which at ~5s or lower for 0-60 the Chim is in the grand scheme of things) because of the construction of the tyre being more compatible with the associated forces

Ok, two conflicting opinions then scratchchin

This isn't a 1600kg M3 BMW, its a 1060KG TVR that never travels over 145mph.

If my insurance is cool with it shouldn't I trade the unused speed rating for a bit more comfort?

These are the fronts after all so they aren't getting the torque the rears see.

I need to make a choice here fast chaps.

V or W?

Anyone else?

I thought the rating issue was related to the tyre overheating - so how often do you do 0-60m in sub 5? Flexible sidewall wins for me

Cheers all, I've gone with the softer wall of the "V".

If I get me a turbo I expect I'll want wider tyres anyway cool

For the time being I'll continue to enjoy the lighter more communicative steering I get from 205 section tyres with power steering.

I guess I'll just have to stay under 149mph for now rolleyes

Two new Rainsport 2 205/50R16 87V on their way, for £150.00 delivered to my door tomorrow.

Seems fair biggrin

I'll keep you all posted on how the Rainsports perform on a TVR.
