Hi to all, just wanted to introduce myself and swmbo and say hi before asking the ever increasing amount of questions.
We are the proud owners of a 1994 chim 400 in starmist blue and i am hooked. I have been lurking on here for a very long time and this just fuelled my need to have one.
Picked her up Sunday afternoon, then spent 260 miles on the back of a recovery truck as the wiper motor decided that it couldn't cope with all poor weather we have had lately. New one on order and will fit minutes after arrival.
But we have had good fun in the few dry spells we have had.
Many thanks to all for the previous posts that have broadened my knowledge

Welcome to you both - shame about your first trip but things can only get better. Enjoy your new purchase - it will bring a smile to your face every time you start it up.

Welcome, you'll have a blast and fall even more in love with your Chim. Just don't go near the slippery slope to upgrades-ville!

You've probably already realised that a TVR will not deliver great MPG but is the best car at converting fuel into noise and fun!

Enjoy!

It is converting more fuel to noise now as today Jamie has sleeved the exhaust. Sounds really nice though (sorry neighbours). It is nice to read your replys as we are new to this and they are bringing a smile to our very happy faces.

Fuel £100
LOL when I first picked mine up (about 3 weeks ago) I filled it up and used that in one trip... When I got home I told my good lady we needed to budget ~£90 a day (£2700 a month) for fuel. Oddly enough she didn't seem impressed LOL

Fortunately it's close to £100 a week so that's a lot more palatable...

Hi Julesprivate, would like to use your quote but still trying to figure that out.
We were very interseted in your car and you beat us to it. So glad that you are enjoying it and as for your fuel bill, we can sympethise, but they are so much fun to drive that buying a pint of milk has become exiting.
oh that reminds me only have 80 tee bags left thank god for tesco express back soon! lol

LOL - oops sorry about that. I used "auctionsniper" as I was going to be away from the PC when it ended. If it's any consolation I have had to put a new starter motor on it since getting it :-)

As you have probably seen from our previous posts, we have had to buy a few things for ours and the list is still growing with things that we want to get for it.
Would think that it would at least be a week after buying her before you'd have to open your wallet again .... or should that be hope!

Does your Chim have the numberplate lights behind the plate (like mine) in which case did you buy a rear translucent plate (I just had to as mine was a "normal" plate and therefor unlit). Craigsplates do them in case you ever need one but I think it was £28 or something similar...

Hi, yes ours is like yours, we had to get new plates because the prev owner kept the private plates that was on it hence we had to get front as well.
Although we are now looking at getting our own private plate for it but thought that the police would not allow us to drive it without any plates whilst we decided what to have. SHAME THAT

Welcome to you both... and you do realise that there will be no turning back for you now!

Nice to see you used to own a 128 3p - I too cut my teeth on early FIATs and the 'home mechanics' learnt back then has stood me in good stead for all these years of TVR ownership biggrin

Hi GPS 10,It was great little car, i know its not in the same league as a tvr but i think it made me smile just as much when that 28/36 carb used to be wide open.
Thankyou for your support, and i knew there would be no looking back before we bought her.
I have so many plans and Shelly is having to rain me in somewhat and shouting " PUT DOWN THE SPANNERS AND STEP AWAY FROM THE CAR" lol, But we did go to Mac Ds on saturday night just for a shake and show the saxo boys a real car
