Looks right, although it seems very cheap.

Its not a east mids TVR regular as never seen it at any of the regional meets?, as previous, looks cheap for a 4.5, but what lies beneath is the question ?

Compare that belt routing to those shown in the following thread:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Something's not right there, it's missing a loop under the central pulley for a start..

You're right. The main belt seems to have missed the one pulley???

Nothings wrong with the pulleys its just there is 2 ways of routing the belt 'one wrong' & 'one right' biggrin it does look tatty scratchchin but if you don't look you don't find out rolleyes if the chassis is sound for that money it could be a fixer upper wink

Looks tatty to me. New roof and respray is 2 grand before you fix anything else. It's another one of those cars that looks well priced until you add up all the repairs and realise you might as well buy a sorted car to begin with. Very frustrating as I'm looking for a project, but it has to make financial sense.

Guy has confirmed he would except £5000,but he has said the main chassis is fine although could do with painting up,however the out riggers are knackered and would need replacing.

Couple grand for body off and attend to minor items while its off including cam so say 2500.

450 with good chassis and new cam, fuel lines etc for £7500?

I think you're being optimistic. I would add to your £2500 a new hood which must be at least £500 and if you zoom in on the bodywork it is definitely less than perfect. There appears to be quite a scratch/scuff on the leading edge of the boot lid. Also, if you're really honest, do you expect there to be no mechanical gremlins other than those already mentioned?

Personally I would budget double your £2500 to get it back into good condition. That means £10,000 for a 60k 4.5litre Chim with refurbed chassis, new hood and a respray. Not bad, but it doesn't scream 'fantastic deal' at me.

FWIW I'm looking for something in similar condition or worse, but with fewer miles so we seem to be thinking along similar lines. And TBH, if he has said he'll take £5k he'll probably take less.

By my reckoning:

£5000 car
£3000 sort chassis - new outriggers and powder coat etc
£500-£700 new roof.
Paintwork - front end respray alone £800ish (3 x this for the full body)

So you're looking at £11,000 total and you get a 60k 450 with a decent chassis, roof and paintwork assuming (big assumption) no mechanical issues and you still have a slightly tatty interior.

Not a bargain and it's going to be quite some time before it's ready to enjoy.

Oh and you still don't have any service history for future buyers and without a service history more concern regarding mechanicals (engine doesn't exactly look loved does it?)

Makes me laugh ,everytime someone posts a car for sale on here for advice ,for some reason there seems to be a conspiracy theory !

Even 10k cars need work so it`s worth looking at

For 3k you can have a full body off restoration at Willow Sports cars so your calculations are way off .

It really comes down to what you're after. If you want a TVR to drive and aren't too bothered about the aesthetics then you could live with the hood and the scratches, hope that the mechanicals are ok and just sort the outriggers. The problem is that most likely you'll only sort the outriggers and the scruffy hood and bodywork will annoy the hell out of you to the point that you get them sorted as well. So you're still spending £10k ish for a 60k mile 450 with no service history.

The sad reality is that this car isn't worth what he's asking for it. I wish it was because he's fallen on hard times and needs the cash. Hopefully he'll find a buyer who disagrees with me.

surely 5 grand for a 99 450 is a good price, yeah it needs some work but don't most of them, as daz said even 10 grand cars need something at least if you do it yourself you know hats been done. but i don't think you get back what you spend yeah they are maybe worth more. just my opinion
