Hey,
My old man picked up the chimaera for me a couple of months ago and put it into my garage for storage, I am back in the UK in four weeks so will be using it on dry days.
However during last nights conversation he tells me he didnt disconnect the battery and shut the doors - Mine is a '95 so will I have issues opening it up to charge the battery?
thanks

Suck it and see - it doesn't take a lot of power to unlock and open the doors. Once in you can charge the battery. There may well be a small Accumate plug on the end of a lead already attached to the battery. My old man picked up the chimaera for me a couple of months ago and put it into my garage for storage, I am back in the UK in four weeks so will be using it on dry days.

If it's totally flat ask again and someone will tell you privately how to get in.

...and you'd tell them it had no battery connected? At the end of the day they go flat after a few months which is effectively the same.Whether the battery is connected or not you can still drag it onto a trailer and if you disconnect the battery at least when they reconnect it it comes on alarmed.

My way of looking at it is if I leave the doors unlocked and the battery isolated then if any oik wants to break in looking for something to nick then they won't do too much damage - if someone wants the car then as long as the insurance company don't find it then they'll never be able to prove it wasn't alarmed and the alarm bypassed.
its not insured anyway, I live in Australia 10 months a year and only insure when I am in the UK to drive it (nobody will insure it while I am living overseas)- full service, full detail then use it for roughly 6 weeks on dry days, aside from that its locked away in a very secure garage. I have another car I use for wet days or going on long journeys.
it gets turned over every few months and my mechanic sorts it all if any issues before I get back.

If you don't insure the car while you're away I assume you SORN it? If you don't do either you're actually now breaking the law.

Also as regarding 'getting in' if the doors are locked and the roof is up. Think laterally, it's a convertible

it remains taxed usually but at the moment is SORN- it only breaks the law if its on a public road while being uninsured.https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/uninsured-veh...

Be careful James - I think the recent law change means if it is taxed it must be insured too.
well I would love to see that one in court - I am paying for the roads and not bloody using them. Just saved me the hassle of going to the post office after a 22 hour flight. Actually being based outside the UK there isnt anything they can do about it. Its not like they can write to me to advise of court action.I will find out as its ridiculous- try to do it properly and get screwed over, would be better off just not taxing and insuring it seems.

That's correct. What they would do is send a fine to the address on the V5, no court appearance necessary. Taxing a car on SORN is easy. As long as you have insurance and MOT you can apply online and your tax disc will be there waiting when you got home, simples.
I'm afraid we're paying for the wasters who don't have tax, insurance, MOTs and in some cases even a licence yet still drive.

well knowing that the DVLA were 8 months behind in their work with the CLE/28 and 99% were never persued due to the time frames, and the fact that there have been inevitable cuts to the DVLA during this recession - I am not even going to worry about it. It is impossible for them to check as not all insurers adhere to the insurance database anyway. What they would do is send a fine to the address on the V5, no court appearance necessary. My car was parked and got hit four times (she was trying to park) whilst at a conference with about 30 other police officers. All of who witnessed it and provided statements. She denied it despite having my paint all over her bumpers.
turns out she had insurance but no licence.
After 2 years of fighting it through the insurance system I got told that no payment was coming my way as she had invalidated her insurance by not having a licence and I needed to take her to court myself.
This coupled with a few other things led to my emigration three months later. Whats the point?
