Hi - new to the forum but just wanted to provide some reassuring words to anyone thinking about buying a Chimaera as they might think they all have loads of problems if they read too much on here! Maybe I was incredibly lucky, but just over two years ago I bought my first TVR - a 96 Chimaera 4.0HC with 72,000 miles on the clock. It was a private sale for not too much money. The car came with all the documents that you could ever ask for even though it had 7 previous owners during its lifetime. I have now done about 10,000 miles in her with virtually no problems at all. I fixed the aircon ( yes - one of the few with aircon) when I first bought her ( bit of a waste of money really because I hardly ever use it!) and sent it to Dom @ Power for a good service and cured a few oil leaks. Since then nothing has gone wrong other than a failed tensioner pulley and a new alternator. She's been to Le Mans and another trip to SW France and never let me down. She starts first time every time, has no "hot start" issues, idles at just under 1000 rpm nice and evenly and will happily drive in fourth or even fifth at 30 to 40 mph without any "shunting". It's still on the original camshaft and the chassis is good and solid. Of course, I shouldn't have mentioned any of this as it could all go horribly wrong now but i just wanted to say what a great car it is and it really is easy to get on with yet provides immense fun. So.....if you are thinking about buying one go and do it - look out for the obvious stuff mentioned here on the forums, keep your fingers a bit crossed and enjoy! You wont get much else that can provide this level of motoring fun for the price.

Cheers
Richard

Since we're clearly related from the wacky races days I’ll throw my in tuppence worth too.

My 1999 4ltr Chim has also been superbly reliable, had it three years and its run tremendously; they're a very easy and pleasurable drive. thumbup .
