Just got my Chim 400 back from a major service and the guys have noticed an excessive drain on the battery when switched off. They reckon there's a 2 amp drain. Where the hell do I look to find this? ANy obvious suggestions?

There's no stereo, no power steering, the fuel pump doesn't sound as though it's running.

I'm going to start pulling fuses etc this evening.

Pulling fuses is a good start - I assume you'll have an ameter set up whilst you are doing it to see if the drain goes?

I had a similar issue with my S earlier in the year and it turned out to be a faulty diode pack in the alternator. One of the diodes for the exciter cct had failed and meant the ignition was being fed.

Mine was "easy" to spot though as the battery warning light was illuminated (as that's where the diode connects). There are a pair of diodes in that circuit though so it is possible for the drain to happen without the light on.

It could also be the alarm/immobiliser, but then again it could be almost anything....Even something you don't currently have connected (i.e. the stereo you don't have) as the wiring to it could be damaged and a partial short (can happen) could cause the same..

Do you have anything "non standard" fitted - like a Kenlowe kit for example?

Aside from the hot-start mod, it's all pretty stadard. No added extras. I've got an ammeter so I'll start pulling all auxillary fuses and check the stereo leads (even though they're not plugged in).
