Worst advertising in a thread post ever
Have you looked in the classifieds?
Not a good time to sell (but a good time to buy, so if you're replacing might not make that much difference)
About £7k?
The problem is there aren't many 450's in the classifieds.

The closest to your spec is this: http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...
Less miles (13k less), recent chassis work, needs £750 quid spending on it (manifold gasket and rear screen), non-standard front lights (some prefer them, but it reduces the market) and up for 7k.
I reckon yours would go for between 7 and 8 based on that, assuming the chassis is good.
Bad time to sell? Holy Crap;
Chimaera 500
That would make it look like it's bargain basement time out there.
Nothing like the prices we were seeing in the spring.
But then there are quite a number of 400s and 450s for much more...
Such a wide price range at the moment.

Personally, if I were ever going to sell, I doubt I would even consider PH classifieds (for a TVR sale).
Firstly, there is a better chance that the people looking will have been lurking in the forums, and be much better(?) informed. Or should that be "much more frightened" by what they have read?
Secondly, people here seem to love to talk other people's cars down, once they are on the sales block.
On the first point;
While I deplore the endemic dishonesty in the motor trade, I would keep in mind that the point is to make the best price, not a new friend for life (i.e. the purchaser).
[rant on]
On the second point;
It's all been said before but...
I really wish that it would stop.
It does none of us any good whatsoever.
The Chimaera forum is the only TVR forum (that I have noticed), where people consistently talk car values down, and rant about all the things that can (often "must be") be wrong with a car that's up for sale.
There is absolutely nothing to be gained by publicly denouncing other owners cars. Nothing.
[/rant off]
Good luck with it

Minkybob, If you're looking to replace with another TVR how about going to one of the specialists like TG? Their asking prices are well above private sellers, and you might get a better (and immediate) offer from them as opposed to peeps pitching up on your doorstep and kicking the tyres. They might even have your next TVR
Or could help in finding the right one for you... Maybe worth a phone call...
Just a thought,
Chilli

I've been looking for a Chim for ages. I think you have three different types of sale. The usual dealers, the owners that own but don't maintain and the owners that love their cars. On one side, you have vendors trying to make a quick buck and on the other, sellers that find it difficult to part with their pride and joy.I don't think its talking prices down, however, you have to accept that many people can get tarred with the same brush.
I've viewed loads recently and some of the prices have been unrealistic when compared to their condition. I have also seen beautifully maintained machines that have been for sale for months. I think PHers tend to be the enthusiast type that love their vehicles, so it becomes a difficult pill to swallow when looking at prices.
I don't think that it is a reflection that the car that is worth less in terms of it's general standing, but more a reflection of pure economics. We're heading into a triple dip recession and I have no doubt that this will continue for some time. I run a business, times are tighter than they were four years ago, which means money is less forthcoming. I gather it is the same for millions of other people. A TVR is a luxury item, which narrows the market. It is also a small specialist market,so it is a bit of a double whammy. I'm sure when we're all heading into easier times economically, the values will again go up. No demand, prices fall. Much the same with house values at the moment! We have also just had the worst summer in years. As much as people hate it, Fleabay is a fairly ruthless indicator of market values and average prices.

If you're selling to make money, then you may be better to hang on a couple of years. You may just get lucky. However, if you are selling to purchase another TVR, then it may not make a massive difference in the short term as all prices seem to be a little depressed at the moment, so you'll buy cheaper too.
Ultimately, it is only worth as much as somebody is prepared to pay for it. The trick is to locate the right purchaser!

I was offered very good money for mine a while back and it wasn't for sale!Still agree with 'Goaty' though when he says we talk our cars down on here, well some seem to.

If you compare against other marques (Porsche for example), I wouldn't say TVRs are undervalued.
Could it be that as with houses, buyers anticipate more than the current market value because of historical price trends?

At the end of the day, put it on the market for whatever price you want, but if it doesn't sell, you have your answer. When a spankingly beautiful Chim 500 with new engine can't get beyond £6800 and another tops out at £8200 it is a little harsh, but undeniable...

Saw this, it went for <£6500. I think he sold to a dealer in the end.The closest to your spec is this: http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

k thought it was a good idea to put a yellow steering wheel in?

As I thought, a thinly disguised advert. OP asks question about value, most point at £7k, OP comes back at £9.5k. Why ask?
