Hi guys.

I am trying to source a replacement for the Chimaera hand brake rubber gaiter. Niggles has a rubber one under the "leather" one. Andy at Power Parts tells me it's not the norm and I believe him.

But a title bit of me wants to be sure before I put it all back together. Could any willing volunteers please have a peek under the skirt of their leather one for me (I'm trying my best to make it seem like fun!) and just post please what's there?

Thanks

I seem to recall a thread on here that said it was the same as the handbrake one but cut down, a Ford part if I recall

I got a Ford Festa one yesterday from the late 70 for the gear lever........and then was directed to the correct one on Race Tech's website!

The hand brake is a different shape, long and thin oblong rather than the square/circular gear lever one.

Thanks for the suggestion. The hand brake itself reminds me of my old 1967 Mini one. But the Mini forum on here has fallen asleep!

Found the thread, there's a part number and some pictures. Its a Griffith but I'm guessing its the same on a Chimaera

Thanks - I will ave a bid on that.

The Griff ones are apparently the same as each other and are both the gearbox one......the Chimaera ones definitely aren't.

Bid, and won it for £22. Given the amount of time and fuel I have already spent searching, that was money well spent. Now just got to buy a riveter and some rivets and get cracking next weekend.tongue out

The £22 was just for the rubber wotsit and its fixing plate - and was still better value than hours wasted driving around car parts departments looking for the right one. I can always adjust the shape of the hole in the fibreglass section that carries both rubbers to match the fitting of that rubber. I will report back when it arrives, just to be sure that it is a solution to the problem. None of the regular TVR suppliers or breakers had an intact example of the correct part.

I will use the £12 that Halfrauds returned to me towards the purchase of their riveter. Last weekend I bought a basic multimeter from them for £19.99, and the very next day saw exactly the same product £12 cheaper in Maplins. Halfrauds honoured their price promise under my steely glare.
