Hi all, picking up my Chim in next few days.
Can anyone recommend a good TVR insurer?
Secondly, it's a 99/T and has the TVR standard alarm fitted, is this good enough and what is it (Thatcham wise) if the insurers want to know?
Lastly, there's a lot of talk about the Bible on this website, I assume it's similar to a Haynes, can someone provide it's full name and a good place to get it please.
Thanks.

Welcome,

Just joined the fold myself,

The book is teh TVR Griffith and Chimaera by Steve heath who posts here and is available here www.tvrbooks.co.uk, or through the TVRCC.

Insurers, unsure about good ones, but price wise. Do a search lots said here in the past. Teh cheapest I found was Tesco and Direct Line and I went for the latter.

More options if you've been driving high performance for 1 year plus. Also be aware of the second year being considerably mor eexpensive, I have been warned, but am yet to find out. You may need to re look again in a year.

Unsure about the alarm, good luck!

Hi

Bought my chim 4 months ago & when insuring I found that some of the typical TVR insurers you will hear mentioned classed a 99 T reg as too new for classic status. There were also conditions - must always be garaged at night, limited mileage etc.

I found Tesco & Direct line cheapest for insuring as an everyday car.

I'm with direct line presently, although privilege look pretty competitive. A colleague of mine has been using them for a few years now and has no bad stories to tell. Try the online quotes, usually save around 5-10%.

Hi,

I went with A.Manning for insurance on my 450. There the ones who do the TVR car club insurance.

It was the only company that would insure me without having the car garaged overnight

But reading a few other insurance threads on here you can find cheaper brokers

I'm fed up with Direct Line, mainly because they do put up the insurance premium massivly after 1 year. I insured my Audi S3 with them for £780 they wanted nearly £1200 the next year

I'm with Liverpool Victoria. No mileage restriction, std alarm, no need to garage (thought it is anyway).

Bizzare that! I've been with them for 3 years now (Chim 2years and now Cerb) and my premium has remained +/- £550 for each year

Unfortunately for the major insurers it's common practice to raise premiums after 1yr, they want new business, but give no discount for loyalty, after two years of complaining to Norwich union and getting discounts offered, as they then wanted to keep me, I walked away.

It's blatant and they don't try to hide it anymore, and easy to check at renewal time on the internet. They rely on people just paying the renewals.

I was with Direct Line for 3 years with a couple of Pugs, 1 year with a Audi A4 and 1 year with a Audi S3 and every time the policies came up for renewal they always quoted silly money.

Even the bloke at the direct line service centre advised that I cancel my current policy and re-apply via the web. I know you get 10% discount via their web site but adding over 400 notes to the premium is getting silly! IMHO
