Taken all the wheels off the Chimaera today to clean the insides and paint the calipers but it looks like rear discs are corroding and lipped. Been looking on eBay, seen a pair of grooved and drilled for £70 ( make unknown), others tarox, EBC twice the price. Wondering if any benefit by spending double, or is a disc a disc ?
Also anything to watch removing calipers, changing discs ? Thanks.

You are in danger of opening that can of worms here! I only intended changing my discs and ended up with all the suspension and brakes off. I wouldn't have thought just changing the discs alone is going to make too much difference. New braided hoses, bigger discs, bigger calipers, new fluid, and bigger pads will certainly improve things, but then thats the can of worms I mentioned!. The only slight problem I encountered is accessing the rear hex bolt slightly fouled by the upright - get the mole grips out!
For road use, standard discs and NEW pads are fine.

That reminds me Keri has a few sets of his 300mm WMS front brake kits left at a very good price ..with a free Ferrodo DS 3500 upgrade

They fit behind 15inch wheels

Wish i could afford them.frown

The fronts are grooved and drilled, so rears look a bit weedy compared. I understand no real benefit over solid disc in the real world. Unsure when fluid done last so will change that. I have solid mintex discs and pads on my 2007 golf gti and very pleased with those. Swapping as the discs look past thier best rather than looking to increase stopping power.

Funnily enough most of the worms in the can have already escaped!, courtesy of prev owner, braided hoses, new lower wish bones, gas gold suspension .

Also now wheels are off , I have discovered where the bolts are for the roll bar!
