Search seems to be down, so can someone please help me with the latest thinking on headlight bulb upgrades?

I need to replace one bulb anyway, so is it OK to use the H4 Xenon upgrades or will this present any problems come MOT time? Is there any better solution - short of the Lupo type conversions?

BTW - I see Halfrauds are offering to fit bulbs for £3.99. Sounds like a bargain to me ...

You get what you pay for. So I imagine they are the st chavvy items that are too bright, and other drivers flash because they think chav has got his full beam on.

But I could be wrong.... smile

Sorry, I didn't phrase that well. The £3.99 is for the fitting service and is in addition to the cost of the bulb.

I was just mildly amused at the tought of them having to jack the car up, remove wheel, remove cover, grovel around inside, sikaflex cover back on, replace wheel etc - all for less than four quid ...

Lol, sorry, I should be apologising. Have just re-read it, and yes, you did say 'for fitting'. Duh...
I'll go back to sleep sleep

I've used xenon bulbs on all my vehicles for the past 7 years or so. They're not quite up to HID std but pretty close.
Bear in mind the OEM TVR wattage was 100/80 (I believe) which strictly speaking isn't legal anyway (for road use) so I'd be inclined to pick some 100/80 Xenon Blues ~4500k Temperature is about right.. Upgrade side lights to SMD LED at the same time or they look horribly yellow in comparison.

I haven't done the TVR yet for precisely the reasons mentioned above!

I am tempted to go to Halfords and see if they can fit them with no instruction from me LOL

Although many (me included) would be horrified at actually paying someone to fit a bulb, that is not bad value for your average numpty. Even on the Fester it would probably take me 10mins by the time I have unclipped the grill, unscrewed the light housing, jiggled it lose, changed the bulb and put it back together again. On that timing £3.99 is only £24 per-hour labour which is a lot cheaper than most garages would charge. Admittedly you will only get the 17 year old Kevin doing it but most other places are the same with 'minor' jobs.

Agree regarding the Chim though - what's the betting you would probably end up having to do it yourself to show them how to do it.

It would be fun asking 'Kevin' where his low-entry trolley jack, axle stands, wheel brace, Sikaflex etc were and then watching his reaction though ....

Actually, I'm not especially looking forward to doing the job myself this weekend. It's chilly out there and if I do the Xenon upgrade I have to do both sides.

This is because you are all doing it wrong smash

It's done so quickly by an 'expert', I have never been charged for the service, providing I've bought the bulbs from them.

I went for Ring Automotive +120% (E marked and fully road legal) with a new set of reflectors (sourced off a PHer at a LOT less than the well know parts sites) and new lenses and its a brilliant (pardon the pun!) improvement.

Much brighter than beloved's Golf which is a couple of years younger.
