thank you Ivan I knew I could rely on you for info !
but when the diff is in the car how can you get to that nut to undo it with all the chassis and cross members in the way ?
and how can you get the bottle of oil anywhere near it to top it up
lol
A funnel and some 12mm dia clear plastic hose, and good luck.........but first you have to undo the nut but when the diff is in the car how can you get to that nut to undo it with all the chassis and cross members in the way ?

lol
......and very good luck with that.I've been under the car today on my back with my nose touching the chassis lol
ive got small hand but how on earth you get them up there to undo that nut I don't know perhaps I should invest in a platform lift or dig a pit in the garage lol
this may be a job i'll give to my local mechanic

Use an open ended spanner for the filler and a good fit ring spanner for the drain. You hear the odd horror stories about them being seized but if the car has been maintained correctly and they haven't been done up by a gorilla you won't have a problem.and how can you get the bottle of oil anywhere near it to top it up
lolIf you don't have a pump etc, get hold of a 500ml plastic gear oil bottle, extend the pipe and squeeze most of the contents of a bottle from the side, it will take four top ups. Warm the oil first if you are doing it in this weather.
This is easily doable by you, good luck with it.

Now now boys - play nice!!
By the way John Reid only recommends Morris diff oil as it is the only one with the correct friction modifiers and he has rebuilt the odd diff or two!
