500 firing order...
Discussion
Okay, I've been a bit of an idiot.
Changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm this morning. I marked the HT leads, but some of them came off when I was swapping them over. Fired it up and it doesn't want to know! Can anybody give me the following:
Firing order
Which cylinder is which (diagram very useful)
Which is number 1 on the dizzy cap
Thanks peeps!

Turn engine to TDC on firing stroke, the rotor will be pointing at No 1.
The worst that can happen is that you'll be 180 deg out!

Top tip from me having bought a Chim in June, if its working don't fiddle with it. Like you I did the same, then I had to replace the vacuum advance on the distributor and buggered up the timing and stripped the threads in the distributor housing
Honestly if they're running, I believe they will continue to do so without our tinkering

Blimey, sounds like a job...

Mine was running a little rough, missing a bit, so I'm putting this down to something in the ignition. I started at the obvious and cheapest place. Looking at the dizzy old cap, it has seen better days. I'll go out and do it properly tomorrow. Failing that, it will be plugs, leads and coil... it shouldn't bugger things up too much (I hope).
Good luck Chris. Should be fine changing those. It's the base plate I thin the distributor I knocked, unless you remove the vacuum advance (where fitted) you won't have the problem.
I got my leads, distributor cap and rotor arm from here:

Excellent quality and value.

Hi Chris one thing to note if removing the coil etc, if you remove the amplifier to clean or inspect make sure all the brackets are very clean as the amplifier earths through the plate its mounted on, then bolted to the bracket on the plenum and no earth means no spark (i found this out last weekend the hard way).

I'm afraid that will vary depending on how your dizzy was oriented on installation. You will have to fnd TDC..at least approximately. Do you know how?
P
I still have some of the leads marked as per the old dizzy cap, so should be able to work backwards from those as to the positions of the remaining leads. However, it would be interesting to know how to find TDC. Does the crank/ cam pulleys not have marks on them?P
