Hi
Anyone using Magencor leads with out the plug extensions?
Will the leads be long enough to reach?
I am planning on using some haet sleaves to protect the leads if they will reach.

Cheers

Just changed my leads. Cannot remember why, but we had to put the plug extenders back in despite getting heat sleeve.

I also changed my plugs to some recommended by Chimp of Darkness.

The car runs sweeter and is much more responsive on the throttle. I presently have a small stone-cold starting issue, in that the car takes about 30 seconds to warm up enough with my foot on the gas not to stall, but he has sent me a load of instructions to cure this. It just needs me to be brave enough to attempt the fix, as it involves resetting the ECU and the idle.
Starting from anything other than stone cold is not an issue, even if you have left the car for a couple of hours.

I'll be ditching them very shortly (for a trial period anyway) It'll be after NewYear though as I'm currently offshore.
I've just ordered fibreglass sleeves to protect the leads from manifold heat and we'll see how we get on.
I have noticed that the extenders don't always make a very positve connection to the plug and have found them "loose" on a couple of occasions. The leads have been renewed (resistive ones) so I believe I no longer need the extenders.
The new leads are long enough to reach - the old ones were not (No.2 lead was bar-tight over the rocker cover even with the extender in place)
Will let u know how it turns out.

Off to ponder

Had a misfire back in Sept. Took the extenders off as they were old, rusty & loose!! (Gawd knows how the last service didn't pick this up or the air filter caked in crap!!)

Bingo, cured missfire & ran like a dream ever since. thumbup

I purchased some of these socks last year and did away with the extenders. Upon recent examination of them some of them have all but burnt through. This is probably only after about 1500 miles. I have now taken them off and put the extenders back on. Bit dissapointing really.

They only burn through if they are touching the exhaust, I use16mm plugs with angled ignition lead ends so mine dont suffer the same fate, no8 is pretty close though.

Pretty sure they werent touching Simon. They havent actually gone through but have gone white on the side subjected to the heat, and thinned quite a lot. Dont think they would have lasted much longer before holes would of appeared.

Ah OK, are they the same brand by chance? the Accel race leads boots are supposed to be high temp rated anyway so the socks were for insurance, we shall see Carsy.

The sleeves you want are these ones:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VULCAN-LAVA-PROTECTOR-SL...

The normal ones aren't heat resistant enough.

Just trying to find some nice 30 or 45 degree plug lead ends but otherwise thinking of grabbing a set of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

...but of course only of use to someone with Ford coil packs. biggrin

Yes your prob right. I think mine were about £30 delivered from America. Obviously the cheaper variety. Obviously you get what you pay for.
