hi guys,

im sure i read somewhere that some of the waterpump bolts should have a sealant applied to them when refitting on a pre serp?

is this true? has anyone else heard of this?

Yes thats right. If i remember correctly when looking from the front its the two long bolts on the right hand side of the pump where they break through into the water jacket. I just placed some Hylomar instant gasket type stuff on the threads and they have been fine.

Hylomar or Wellseal is ideal for this kind of thing wink don't use RTV/Silicone its hard to remove from internal threads frown

You should also smear a thin coat onto the shoulders of the long bolts on pre-serps.

I believe it's to protect them against corrosion if there are small leaks into the bolt hole / casing from the water pump gasket. Always seemed an odd one in the rover service books TBH but probably just to prevent a simple leak years down the road leading to a nightmare strip?

I still do it out of habit on serps (just in case), tending to use loctite thread sealant (not thread lock).
