Thanks to the guys at Austec for persevring with my squeaky clutch. Just to let you know if you are reading this the Chim made it home without even the hint of a squeak! wven with the worst the Dartford tunnel could throw at it in queues!

S200xxx, purple blue Chim, spotted pulling out of a BP station on the A12 on Romford on Tuesday evening - I was in the blue Seat Toledo that let u out

Glad it's sorted, any idea what they did?

My clutch has been creaking badly for over a year now, finally bit the bullet and had it replaced.... and it still creaks!

Cheers
Andy

In response to the many requests I have for info on what was done.

The sound is wasn't really squeaky, more a creaky spring noise coming from what sounded like the pedal. In fact the noise comes from inside the bell housing from the clutch release mechanism. Depending on the model year the bell housing may have a inspection hatch at the bottom of it (mine did 99, T Reg) They pulled this off (so no gearbox drop needed, but access is very tight) and basically lubricated everything involved. Not only has the squeak gone but the whole release seems a lot smoother. They charged me 1 Hrs labour which was a bargain considering how annoying the noise was.

Others with the same problem as me!
99V 4.0 Chim - 31K miles. Very reliable apart from sqeaky clutch pedal. Not always there - seems to be worse in warm weather!!!
Slight squeak engaging clutch and a louder squeak letting clutch out at the top of the pedal travel. No clutch shudder or other problems.
Thought I'd leave it until next service but it can get a bit disconcerting in heavy traffic with paranoia about cable going??
Any further ideas?

Well that's 1 less thing to worry about - there is no cable involved! It's all pistons, pipes & levers...

Excellent news for this mechanical numptie. Still would like to get rid of the noise though.
Next service will do.
