Firstly do you really need one ? Look at think automotive, they supply the cooler , sandwich plate, I got my pipe from pirtek, you can get the push on hosetails then secure with clips. I also used a bulkhead grommets to pass the pipes through to the front. Look at the website they have it all. Think mines a 15 row from memory and I didn't fit a temp gauge

Why do you think you need an oil cooler? What oil temperatures are you seeing (on what oil), and where/how are you measuring them?

I just want one to go with my high spec ,high powered ,high compression engine .

My old MGB with a standard 100hp at the fly had an oil cooler fitted in the 70`s as standard !

To be honest with a standard engine like yours you probably don't need one just stick mobile 10w 60 in it

Can`t be that standard to produce 350 hp when on the rollers next ..cool

Heard it will also keep the engine cooler !

Ok its not got two massive Turbos stuck on it but it`s certainly not standard ..

Daz, I did exactly as Hoofa did.

My cooler is nearly half the size of the rad and works well.

There is a thermostat in the sandwich plate.

Are you tracking the car? Because if generally road use you won't be working the engine hard enough to warrent a oil cooler, just because your mg had one back way when doesn't mean your chim needs one.....
If you could actually measure the oil temp first that would be a good indication whether a cooler is needed or not.

I also have an oil temp gauge.

Roadwork sees 85-90 but hard track used to see 115 with a small cooler while the water temp sits at 80-85.

With my mahoosive cooler it keeps the temp to about 105 max.

Run a LR (freelander / rover 75 v6) oil - water cooler and you can use the take offs in the timing cover. Just get LR Discovery pipes (@£25 the pair at paddock) then have the rad ends changed to fit the water/oil cooler and splice that into the swirl pot - rad hose.

You don't need a stat as the coolant will also warm the oil up when cold.

70's cars *NEEDED* oil coolers as the oils were nowhere near as stable across a wide range of temperatures back then ... modern multigrades really have taken away most of the requirement for that...

I run 2 oil coolers on the tuscan, and about twice as much oil in the tank than the wet sump, on the track we run about 85c oil temp..

i have 2 coolers spare you can have for free if you pick them up, although they might have had some metal through them :-( they look almost brand new but I darent use them I keep meaning to put an axe through them

I'd be a bit wary of that mounting method if the cooler is just hung from the top ears; have seen many fracture and fail by doing that - much better to pick up top and bottom if poss, preferably on some sort of rubber bobbin.

would not adding a cooler potentially mean having to havee the car remapped ?

From my understanding, which isn't a lot, cars that have been mapped have been done so at operating temperature..... surely by adding a cooler there is poetential to lower operating temp and thus the map would be wrong...... I could be talking bks, and happy to be corrected by the more knowledgable, or even just have it confirmed smile

It does have rubber bobbins and I was planning to fix it at the bottom too when I make some brackets for the air filters

Is there a flow and return or does it not matter which way you connect on to the cooler..
