What do people think to fitting wheel spacers. I've been looking at after market wheels and the numbers of wheels that are a direct fit are very limited. I've been told that I can pick some of the Ford fitments, but these will require spacers on the front wheels.
Does anyone have experience of these and what do people think?

I'd like to keep them, but getting decent tyres in the right size and speed rating is getting difficult.

It's a well covered topic. Some wheel suppliers will be able to order wheels with different offsets machined in and some will - like you say - need to fit spacers.

For instance Pro Race 1.2's are available with different offsets. Offsets (ET) as follows for the PR 1.2's on the Chimaera:

(I think SiliconeKid340HP runs this setup)

Front 7x17 ET25
REAR 8X17 ET35

Tyres Front Falken 452 215/40/17

Rear

Falken 452 255/40/17

If you see a wheel you like but they don't have the right offset I don't see a massive issue with spacers myself - porsche boxers have them fitted I've heard.

Thanks Ryan.

I think Daz has 16" fronts and 17" rears. The Monza r and the pro race 1.2 have the correct offset, although I'm not sure on the number of spokes or the writing on the rim of the pro race frown hence the question.
Will look into it further....

Pro Race 1.2 I like them apart from the writing on the rim ..

16" 4x108 ET 25 can`t remember if they are 7 or 7.5 J 225/45/16

17" 4x108 ET 35 cant` remember if they are 7.5 or 8j 245/40/17 prefered the 255/40/17 but caught on the near side inner arch.

I spent hours looking at 17" rims on flbay the problem is the rim width`s are mostly 7j..

Bah Humbug. 15-16" wheels make the car look so dated imho, although I didnt choose these wheels myself.
Someone else had taste smile

aren't the bolt-in hub centric spacers much safer?

Each to their own but I like to keep things original. It isn't a modern car after all.

I fitted Eibach Hub-centric spacers to my old Chim after market wheels to beef up the stance.
Quality piece of kit and expensive, but it looked great and the wheels filled the arches nicely, but I had to tweak the ride height slightly to eliminate rubbing...

I purchased a wheel and tyre package from Demon Tweaks

front 7x17 4x108 7j 215/40/17
rear 8x17 4x108 8j 245/40/17

Tyres Falken 452`s Later found the front 17" to be crashy so sold them on and purchased some cheap new one`s on fleabay 16" used alot on euro boxs.

My setup now is

Front 7.5x16 225/45/16

Rear 8x17 245/40/17 tried 255/40/17 but they were to close for comfort, some Chimaera owners get away with it my caught on the outrigger and inside the near side arch.

If you like the style SP12`s which are the same but look better go it but they are more expensive .
Make in an offer and get them referbed

Thanks Daz, I'll keep looking.
Those SP12s look expensive. A guy on the TVRCC sold a mint set with 2 new tyres for £470 & no refurb required! I just missed out though :-(
Looked at the pics of yours on photo bucket-jeez they look a tight fit!

245`s are fine with a 8j and 35 offset.. tried ans tested .

255`s touch and go , Falkens come wide next to other manufactures.
