What hose is this? It is near the lower rad hoses driver's side. It looks kinked over the two cables underneath

Have you got P.A.S. It looks the return feed from the rack back to the P.A.S. reservoir.
If it is check the hose carefully, it has to be fuel grade hose otherwise the pas fluid destroys it from the inside out!

Yes I have PAS. The pipe seems to be kinked over the cables below. Is that normal?

No, it shouldn't be kinked regardless of what it serves ... and nor should it be fretting against the hose clip on the coolant circuit 'T' either (if it is; pic suggests it might be...)

I'll look at getting this re-routed under the pipes. I'm due to take her in again next week to get the coolant sorted (again), but this time at my local indie, so will ask them to sort it then.

As stated earlier, get them to check it is the correct grade[i.e petrol hose] If its not it will deteriorate from the inside, and the pump will be pushing bits of rubber around the rack, which increases the chances of seal failure.

Plenty of posts about tryin to get a PAS rack repaired, and not many of them with a happy ending.

Thanks for that. Should the hose have any markings to identify the grade?

It's difficult to tel from the picture but my best guess would be that it's the pipe from the carbon canister to the plenum which has been routed quite badly

I recon that is the power steering hose, on mine it goes the other side of the big pipe Thus giving a bigger sweeping bend than yours.
