What rate are they falling into the abyss? 7x rear ends on fleabay, several dogs being discussed in recent threads, rotting chassis the current hot topic....

The number for sale in the classifieds is an interesting gauge... four or five years ago there would generally be 40 or so Griefs and as many as 120 Chims to choose from. Now much closer to parity (typically 40:60)

Sign of the times I suppose and happening to a lot of performance cars when owners can't afford to maintain them. Will it push values up?

Surely it's got too eventually, sad as it is to see less and less of all TVR's but that must stand the good ones in good stead! Luck after it I say! Rare factor's a biggie in time! I hope.

It worries me that people seem so keen for values to go up - or the "auction site" sad old Chims that have been discussed recently not being worth what it would cost to get them back up to scratch...

I have no idea what I've spent so far on mine to bring it up to scratch again and I have a long way to go still. Do people really buy a Tiv hoping that it'll appreciate in value? I saw those sad unloved ones on the auction site and really hoped that someone would have the compassion to rebuild them back to their old glory rather than them end up being stripped for bits ... I know they're not "economic", hell, mine isn't economic but I love her in the same way you would a slightly sickly family pet...

+1. I have spent approximately double our car's market value bringing her up to her current standard and couldn't care less how bad a financial decision this is. The work done should bring pleasure to us for years to come and you can't put a price on that. I only have to take a ten minute trip to my local B+Q in Kate for all the investment to be worthwhile, if the residuals go up then happy days but as she'll never be sold in my lifetime her value in £'s is purely academic smile

If you want a return on your money then Invest it but not in tvr's.
These are Probably the cars that we are seeing on the bay etc, as people have bought them as a money spinner and it failed, the budget is reached so get out quick, and another one bites the dust.
As has been said before they are an enthusiasts car not an investors car and the more enthusiasts the better.

i agree, got over 11k in mine and should never had bought it in retrospect, but after all of the hassle and effort it's worth it when those very rare days of sunshine come a long, pop bang and the the odd donoughts make you feel it's all worth while..Dont buy anything for 5.5k!! It will cost you unless you are rolling a six on that day.

Bought some bits last night off a PHer who is dismantling his Chim - it was already CatD when he got it, and then he blew the engine. Made me sad to see the body and chassis up on stands, especially when what i could see of the body looked to be that grey colour of Chilliman's, and in sparkling nick. I guess it happens to all makes, but they don't all have souls like the TVRs do.

I think I know the one you mean, but his old car is now the donar that will help keep yours and hopefully a few others on the road.
That is the best way to look at, as its a TVR helping another TVR get well again.

Aye, I noticed that too... some conversions or dodgy records at the DVLA?

I'd suggest the latter.

Those figures also ignore the exported cars and the quite large numbers of cars that have V5s without a model name on it.

Good for ballpark numbers of those in UK and on the DVLA's radar but a good number will be missing from those figures I suspect.
