exhaust Y piece

Hi all
could someone please tell me ,the benefits of decatting and fitting a exhaust Y piece.
What else do you need to do ,eg lambda sensors and wiring

Hi guys, sorry to the O.P for hijacking this thread, but has any one got an original Y- piece really cheap, or as a trade for an amount of heat proof material, i.e foil faced glass cloth, or silicne coated glass cloth,etc, or any sheet materials like stainless steel, perforated sheet etc [ideal for making heat shields] or even as a freebie.
I have a welder at work who is willing to help me fab a cat free y-piece, but needs an original to work from. Will probably reuse the top part, cut out the cat and fab a new reducer, downpipe and bottom bend.
I need to keep my original for mot time.
