Discussion
this is on the passenger window ( as the external mike wouldnt reach the number plate) not bad but the windscreen pillar is in the way and its still a bit wobbly

this is on the windscreen, no external mike

this was wedged between the headrest and top of passenger seat, means i didnt need to use a mount, but i should have wedged the seat and made it stiffer as the seat wobbled

This was on the floor on a tripod outside the car

this was held by someone else

Beat this for dissapointing footage! This was due to lens wobble and mount flex. Camera was reasonably well clamped to the roll bar...

If it's a MKII Chim then fix it behind the number plate with the lens just peeking over the number plate. I fixed my cheapo Mini DV there with no problems so far. Two track days and a few hoons later and still ok. Mount only fixed with double sided tape although you could put a couple of self tappers in which you would'nt see.
I've got a Audio Technica ATR3350 external mic for the GoPro, it works well, is powered (a must for the GoPro) and has a 6M cable, which means you have a lot of options for mounting locations. The windscreen that comes with the mic is not up to the job of dealing with 60mph wind, so i made my own from closed cell packing foam, it's abut the size of a golfball and does a pretty good job of dealing with the wind pop.
Here is an example of the mic mounted on the bootlid of my Griff 500.

Yep, the mic is mono and records on one channel only-I forgot to duplicate the audio track onto the other channel.
Iv'e just found out that if you insert a mono/stereo adapter in line, you get sound through both speakers, Iv'e just ordered one off fleebay for 99pThere are some good video's on YouTube which show the difference it makes.
I've just bought a Delkin Fat Gecko camera mount from Amazon. They're on offer at the moment. It should work fine on the windscreen of even on the inside of the pax window. I plan on mounting a 5DmkIII to this, so it should hold a GoPro no problem. It cost me £23.75 delivered.
