So was contemplating trading in my 2007 golf GTI for a newer model,,, went and had a look round and thought better of it, so in my mind I have saved £10k. I am therefore of the mind that spending £1000 on the chimaera will be saving me money ! ( I know, I know ).

The car has had a lot done by prev owner

Outside:
Clear indicators, front and side
Replaced rear screen
Fitted wire mesh to bonnet holes/louvres
Leven petrol cap

Inside:
Leven stalks
Leven pedals (inc. new accel. linkage)
Leven air vent covers (top and front)
Leven handbrake lever
Leven steering wheel screws
Leven alloy dashboard
Leven ashtrays
Leven gear lever surround
Pioneer DEH-P5600MP CD/MP3 headunit
Focal V Slim 5.25" & 1" component speakers in front
Inifinity 5001i 5.25" speakers in rear
Alpine SWD-1600 subwoofer
Chrome cigar lighter
Alloy tax disc holder
Mod-Wise boot opening and LED light kit
Seat Belt CG-Lock
4 point harness
Tuscan seats
Headlight reflector
Roll Bar

Greasy Bits:
Mod-Wise hot start kit
Mod-Wise 2 stage cooling kit
SH drop links front and rear
Magnacore 8.5mm HT leads
Bosch Coil
Braided brake pipes
Braided PAS pipes
Leven oil filler cap
SH swirl tank plug
ACT induction kit, fully covered in heat reflecting sleeving
Silicone water hose kit
ACT swan neck pipe
Mark Adams Tornado chip
Magna Parva t-spacer (plenum heat isolator)
ACT carbon trumpets
SH exhaust heat shield
Gaz Gold shock absorbers
Powerflex bushes
Oil filter magnet

My question is what would you do with the £1000 ( or so). my thoughts were possibly brake upgrade, or paint work sorting. It has cracking above rear lights and the front end is pretty stone chipped ( not sure £1000 would sort it !). I like the standard wheels so not fussed about replacing them.

£1000 will get you a front end respray with some change left over. Alternatively how about a mk3 headlight conversion? Both would be more in the region of £1500 if you used one of the more well known specialists.

I recently had a full respray and headlight conversion at Central TVR and can highly recommend their work smile

Hmm looking round car, hood seen better days, seals not the best. So maybe a re-trim of roof and rear light conversion?

How about spending some money on the driver to improve his performance?

(Not being rude but most of us could all do with a bit car control tuition that sort of thing>)

Funnily enough now I have the Tvr I had been wondering about Advanced Driving course, as U say keeping the car under control is the key especially considering the power and the lack of abs, airbags etc. Good advice biggrin

Just wear thin soled shoes with a drawing pin through the sole of the right one, sticking gently into the ball of your big toe. It will make you squeeze the accelerator not stab it.

Track day at a circuit with plenty of runoff. Pay for instruction. Tell them what you want to achieve and they will help you become a smoother driver. In my limited experience, it is sudden inputs that unsettle the car. I drove fast in mine an hour ago on twisting roads with no dramas in wet slippery conditions by warming the tyres up and driving smoothly, matching the revs on down shifting, and generally being in tune with my car.

Errr, I mean a proper track day, not an impromptu early morning game of chicken on the A1 southboundyikes

Another vote for the Ride Drive course, again I only did the one day, but a superb course loved every minute. Also, depending who you are with, discounts can be had on your next insurance renewal thumbup
