Lets check overall diameter first.
255/45 x 16 inch. Wheel is a diameter of 16 inches = 406mm, plus tyre sidewall 255mm x 45% x 2 = 229 mm. Total diameter = 635 mm

I have been running 235/40 18 on the rear of mine. 18 inches = 457mm, plus 235 x 40% x 2 = 188mm. Total diameter = 645mm

So they will fit inside the wheel arch.

Where you might struggle is with the 255mm width. They might just catch on the inside of the wheel arch due to width of the tyre. Trawl back a week or so through the Chimaera forum and you should find another thread on tyres, where amongst all the hilarlty and abuse you will find someone commenting on 255 section tyres. Also, what width are your wheels? 8J? 8.5J? 255s are going to need 8.5 or 9J.

Don't go buying on just my advice please, I am not enough of an expert. But I have given you the maths behind tyre selection.

another thought - apart from being a slightly larger diameter tyre than your previous size, they are 10mm wider. Can you check how close the present tyres are to the chassis/wheel arch on the inside edge? Allow for squashing over bumps, and the suspension compressing on hard cornering. I had some 17s that i used for trackdaying - once. On hard right bends the rear tyre hit the wheel arch, mildly with just me on board, badly with a passenger as well

Like this ! 255`s are touch and go ,caught my nearside outriggers around corners.

I would check the tyre calculator ,i think 7.5 would not take a 255x45x16 (245x45x16 8to 9.5j) (255x45x16 8.5 to 10)

My outriggers seem to be completly different both sides ,the jigs TVR used were terrible.

The offside tyre cleared the inner arch but the nearside caught ..Thats with an ET of 35 and a 8j rim.

Blimmey, I must have a look at mine! Phazed has done a clever bit of cutting out of the inner wheel arch then glassed it back up, simple and works well if you want fat tyres. What have you done about that Siliconekid!

Sold them to a TVR owner ,now on a BMW.

Back on the 245/40/17 been on the Falken website ,they do come a bit wider so that maybe the problem.

The 255/40/17 did look perfect especialy with close exact wall heights with the 225/45/16.

Funny thing is the speedo at 70mph was near exatact to the Tom Tom and the RPM was down slightly ..Pity they did not fit ..mad

I Did not mind modifyiing the inner arches ,it was the outrigger which worried me ,could of been a danger hazard, I could see tyre wear on the inside and marks on the outrigger.

There was a good 1" difference from the tyre wall to the outrigger .. Been told by the TVR specialist that it`s normal .Thought the car may of been smashed in the past .

Has Phazed modified outriggers! Yeah they looked mean, I have 205/40/16F like the idea of 40's rather than 45's on the rear, looks!!!! Probably to low for rear but for trackdays would they hang on! Lower gearing might also be good, less gear changes, is that crap!!????

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, he's a builder ain't he! fk me your funny. Be nice to have a new chassis and design the big wheel size into it! That and mount the body in the right place. I'm surprised the ash trays are still in his car, extra weight, he'd bash a hole anywhere to make it faster. I like that! It looks abit oily inside but st it's a good car I loved it. Went brain dead when I got to his, want to look much closer to the old girl next time. I can't wait to see yours too, seems well worked on and properly sorted.

Hang on Alun, what bit's oily?

This is the first time ever that there isn't a drop of oil under the car, (maybe it's run dry rolleyes).

Really don't know.

The mapper is 170 miles away which makes things so difficult.

I'll see what the next few days hold and then consider my options.

That's a real bummer, theres a number of people monitoring your situation I'd of thought, I'm sure there all concerned for you, tell the mapper to get a train down, because I was in Orr of your car I didn't listen properly, that component you needed, have you replaced that yet? Can we get a team to get your car upto mapper. Does it run on motorway ok, jeez you need those old wheels! I'm sure a few of us would gladly meet you on the way to help get you there somehow. Ironic but the well known trailer company I contract for have told me there's no work, a week ago they wanted 3 drivers for Christ sake. Maybe the playin at yours should have been about getting yours working! Can someone near mapper bring him down, spend a day mapping under all loads and conditions etc get it done! If they want to sell these things they gotta work, don't give up Peter were all with you.

No, that would be too boring - the Disco would give more amusement to the onlooking crowd of TVR hecklers, the body roll would be awesome!

I was remembering the pics you posted of it, wheels akimbo, on a muddy lane
