Where's the best place to get these? I need a thermostat gasket for my Chim, but many of the TVR online stores are charging more for the postage than they are for the gasket. Have tried Unipart, but they don't sell gaskets by themselves rolleyes

Do you have any work done by a local TVR expert? If you do, get him to add it to his next parts order

There's nobody that 'local' if you know what I mean! Can I use a liquid gasket, anyone know?

Phoned them and ordered the right stuff for the Seprentine. Got it about the thermostat and wouldn't go for an 88deg anyway. I'm draining my coolant and flushing the system, so want to remove the thermostat to facilitate cleaning. As I'm in there, I may as well replace the thermostat itself. Ordered an extra gasket as well.

Chris, word of caution, dont use a standard Rover stat, you will find that the Chimp stat has a much larger flow rate, the rover will work ok but will cause overheating probs when pushed a bit harder

I'll just stick the one I have now back in. It seems working fine, but was taking a preventative measure as I was flushing the system. Oh well, wasn't too expensive!

If I remember correctly mine was from Powers and I think it was only about £9 with the gasket, if you have it out it might be worth doing it for peace of mind, with the prospect of a long hot summer!!!!!!!!!!

That's a good price. Powers? Is that online? Everyone of the TVR specialist charge almost as much in postage as they do for the stat itself.

Mm on this I will beg to differ, the opening bore on the correct stat is significantly larger than a standard Rover item,I changed mine due to low running temps, the Rover item worked ok, but after giving it some beans and then sitting in traffic engine temps were getting higher than I would like. installing the correct stat bought everything back to normal temps and also helped with the low running temps experienced with the original stat indicating the original stat was possibly faulty.

If fellow phers are fitting a standard Rover item and have suffered hot engines this may unwittingly contribute to their problems IMO

It an interesting thought, but would the stat bore affect the water temp that much? Does the speed of flow of cooled water from the radiator into the block affect the temp? How much quicker does the water exchange through the standard stat compared to the larger bore stat? I'd be interested to know...
