Battery Flat - Issues I Should Expect?
Discussion
So, I tried to take the car out on Saturday and the battery wasn't quite flat, but didn't have enough juice to start the car, it tried to turn over. Its my own fault for not using the car enough and not buying a charger.
I do have a jumper start kit (Clarke 900), but that was fairly flat as well. I followed what the Steve Heath guide said and connected the positive lead from the jump start to the positive on the battery, and the negative to the battery etc. But the car still wouldn't start, and the needle on the jump start was in the "needs charging" section.
Interestingly, the jump start says you should connect the positive and connect the negative to a earthed piece of metal in the engine bay, although that wasn't really possible.
Before I did this, the alarm would set etc, pumps would prime, however after using the jump starter - nothing. When I closed the doors, the indicators would just stay on as if it was trying to set etc, although eventually that stopped - the dash did light up however. I've charged the jump starter, but not had a chance to do anything about it and I didn't really fancy crawling around in the snow etc. I have ordered a CTEK charger (MXS3600) with the adapter for the cigarette lighter which will hopefully arrive by the time I get home.
So, my question is - have I broken the car, and what should I now expect once I charge the battery up? Will I need to re-programme the alarm? I do not have a "red card" for the alarm (at least I'm pretty certain I don't), so I'm guessing if I do need to, I'm screwed?
Cheers!

Not sure if this helps but mine had completely discharged, door wouldn't open ( luckily left roof off in garage! , I stuck it on charge ( took nearly 5 days to go green, they are big batteries) expecting the same problems you predict. However fired up no problem, alarm not affected, radio didn't need a code etc. Hopefully you will be ok.
This reassures me, since I was about to attempt to start it this evening with the jump pack, but I'd prefer to charge the car slowly (not that the charger has shown up yet) instead of giving it a massive jolt. I'd rather not crawl around in the snow trying to get the thing going either!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Mine went flat after an immobiliser malfunction. Right hand flashers permanently on etc. Stuck the battery charger (Halfraud's standard one) onto the battery terminals (red to red, black to black) that afternoon and left it overnight. Started first time the next day. No problem with alarm or immobiliser. I think you actually have to have removed the battery terminals from the battery to require re-synching the alarm immobiliser to the key.

Useful info about not removing the terminals, didn't know that,,, thanks!Well, car fixed! Other than some faff with the alarm - it wouldn't set, or allow me to start the car until I plugged in the dongle thing in to were a red light was flashing just by the ignition, at which point it sort of reset itself and boom! She started right up, no grief at all.
I decided in the middle of rush hour was not the time to go out, so will be having a blast on Saturday.
