http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-TVR-Cerbera-4-2-in-...

browsing ebay as u do and came across the above, love my chimaera, but would be very tempted by this had I not gone for chim. Mileage highish but looks like it is in good nick and used regularly. The advert says needs stuff sorting but 7.5k still seems a good price.

no relation to seller, purely for comment and the mrs is watching rubbish on tv so i enjoy looking at cars for sale on ebay.

That was the main reason I went for a chimaera for my first Tvr, good old rover v8, and of course you get to hear the v8 better with the roof down!

I never wanted a convertible and always wanted the raw power and style of the Cerbera.
Then I bought a Chim (in 15 minutes flat one day, no research) and now always want to have a V8 convertible.

Always loved the Cerb but my Chim is a fun car and the fact that the roof comes off makes it all the better.

I always wanted a Cerb. It was the TVR I always wanted. They look awesome and have performance to match. Then I looked at the running costs and changed my mind. eek

I love the Chim. Can't wait to get that roof down on a warm summer evening and here those exhausts popping. It isn't cheap to run compared to my daily driver, but at least I can still afford to go sailing twice a year!!! cool

very similar,1st car i looked at, had a flick through giant folder of receipts for mods. Not been serviced for 5 years and a few cracks in the paint work, and i didn't even look at outriggers. However the guy took me out, nailed it in 2nd with roof down, I was sold! . Luckily I bought a cracker.smile

I wish I had gone chim first instead of the cerb as it ruined me financially! The cerb is an awesome machine & I loved my six years with mine but I think if I had gone with the chim I would still have had the confidence to stick with a TVR & the cerb managed to ruin my faith which is a shame...boy do I miss it though.

The trouble is you do a bit of research, find a car in the adds, ring up ( they've still got.it!) der, by the time you get there the excitement is blowing out of you, I saw mine and thought it's the best In the world, seller started it indoors, oh my lord I was exploding with joy. Handed over cash got the keys and legged it, I thought he might change his mind, out riggers I didn't care, couldn't remember to look. I'd spent wks getting an idea, no bleeding idea, 3 days later i got an expert to look, holy st! It was a pup and a half. I was livid, at my bloody self because I couldn't believe I was so star struck. Ahhhh she needed me like I need her so she's looking good now.

I'm always off topic!! Did the early Cerbs have our V8 In them? If so, now we can gain more power I'd god damn love one. best looking car in the world when they came out in my little book! Breathtaking at the time. Why do they cost so much to run there not that rubbish are they!

no, all the v8 cerbs had the ajp8
which whilst a great engine, due to its flat plane crank it doesnt have the lovely V8 noise of the rover lump

The cerb was electric to drive, so much power & very little weight a great combo! Enjoy picking yours up & I hope you have lots of fun enjoying that awesome V8 burble driving

I agree the rover V8 does sound better to my ears but at high revs the AJP8 is intoxicating it just sounds a little unusual on tickover, it is an angry engine alot different to a traditional V8, but the rover V8 really excites me too you just can't beat the sound of a TVR full stop! smile

Having had a Cerb and a Griff 4.3 before that, I'm now looking for another Rover V8 TVR (Chimaera).
As already mentioned, the Cerb is a stupidly fast car, more power than you'll ever need on public roads. But the feeling of impending breakage around each corner, even though mine was pretty damn good over 5 years. Only a gearbox failure that a TVR 'specialist' failed to identify when looking over the car for me at the time of purchase.

If the Cerb itch is in your blood, best scratch it, then come back to the safer and more fun world of RV8 TVR ownership.
IMHO of course.

Bloody aider while were talking about Cerbs, so what's the unreliable parts, is it just service costs, remember the top gear test when it beat the ass off all those other st things, made my decade! We all know they tuned the heck out of it but still. If ours is a classic, there a supercar. Tvr Alls good. This thing about costs, all and every race bread beast costs millions. Am I wrong!

Well said sir, that sounds like a good endorsement for our little beauties. When all said and done we got power sound and the top off, that's a sports car! I always thought a Cerb would be like getting into a la mon Audi to go to the shops! Takes 5 mins to strap yourself in. Lol The interiors are fantastic mind. I'm glad to have discussed this, I'm mad for the Chimeara!

That's a pretty good price for a Cerbera, especially that pretty. OK so you will need to set aside some cash for a gearbox rebuild (according to the ad) but even so that's not bad.

I love the Cerbera, I'd be pretty tempted myself, not to replace the Chim but to sit alongside it (for use in the winter)...although it'd need to be driven carefully LOL

I prefer the sound of the RV8 but the Cerbera does howl so beautifully and it's just so damn fast!
