Filled up tonight then went to pay, looked across to the car and yikes fluid pissing out from the front of the car,
I thought it was coolant, nope fuel!curse
Luckily it was coming from the redundant purge valve hose, which I thought was just for vapour looks like I need a check valve on it and cut it back to the rear wheel arch.
Any reason I can't do this?

Was this the carbon canister hose cut off end before entering the canister?

I fitted a one way valve to that hose, (air in).

Peter, where can this valve be bought from? I presume air needs to get in one way to relieve pressure in the petrol tank. Initial leak on petrol forecourt perhaps aided by over filling, faulty valve or a hose split, methinks.

The hose was cut and cable tied to the front cross member, I thought it has a roll over valve by the tank, I did over fill it but it shouldn't have pissed out. I check the valve and fit another at he end of the hose.

I suspect once you had a small flow down the pipe it got itself into a self syphoning cycle, which is why it became a continuous flow.

Peter's one way valve would solve it.

I run another contraption with no canister but this will fit if you still use the stock diameter hose wink put a cheap carb in-line filter in front of this to keep the inside clean and functioning correctly http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuel-Non-Return-Check-Va...ideahttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SMALL-IN-LINE-FUEL-FILTE...

What about expansion ! will it close the non return valve .. surely the roll valve thing should do the job .

I cant see symphonic action accurring if the vent pipe is connected at the top of the petrol tank.

The Carbon canister is NOT one way., it breathes both IN & OUT. You will just be fixing one problem & creating another if you have any one way valves, the rollover valve is what it says closing the circuit if the car ends up side down nothing to do with venting purely a failsafe against gravity.

Remove the bloody thing and block the hoses, it is not needed.

Good advice again Dave. I need to check the clips on my roll over valve. I sometimes get a dribble of petrolly fluid under my diff on garage floor. If it's a hose perish I may discard the lot and rely on the tank fuel cap to do the breathing. A la daveparry.

yes Hence why I said I run a contraption of sorts wavey It vents the tank old school without the worry of fuel coming spilling out biggrin although I would never dream of brimming the tank as the fuel cap don't always seal perfectly and I have seen the damage done to the paintwork boot-seal and bumper insert on cars that have leaked fuel for that very reason eek

Where are you fitting the non return valve ? can it go just above the anti roll valve or does it have to be fitted horizontal ?

With other scare stories circulating a few months ago about not overfilling the tank, I stop the moment the pump's own cut off cuts off for the first time. Will this avoid the problem?

I was told by the former owner not to fill the tank up to the max. I pretty much ignored him and fill up to the first click. So I would too like to know if this will be ok.

Just purchased one of those non return valves ! How will it stop the fuel syphoning out beacause the NRV will still allow it to flow out .

Another thing is does the tank and fuel lines want to breath both ways ? the NRV will stop this rolleyesWill it make the tank implode.
