It's well accepted that anyone still with a distributor based ignition system (which is still most on here I'd guess) could benefit massively from a mappable ignition system.

So how about a 3D Mapable Ignition system for a price everyone can afford?

Seems like a dream?

Well, it's now a dream come true.

Everyone can now perfect their ignition timing and alter it based on vacuum/boost, throttle position & engine speed without spending a fortune.

Three dimensional ignition for anyone running a distributor & the 14CUX, and for a price everyone can afford, that has to make this new box of tricks this years must have mod yes

There's a vacuum model for the normally aspirated amongst you, and a boost model for those who want to fit a turbo or supercharger biggrin

It should satisfy the traditionalists amongst you too, it's just a little box you can easily & completely hide to retain the original engine bay appearance.

But best of all, it's only £200!!!!

Chris, looks ok. Before I went down the Canems route I considered one of the 123 Programable Distributors, at least that gets rid of the original distributor altogether. Maybe worth considering if you want to keep the 14CUX

It's brand new for 2013, as such it's only really been out there a few weeks.

It's never going to replace a complete fuel & ignition engine management system but it does make the perfect partner to the 14CUX if you want to see improvements without losing the original look.

Engine speed is referenced from the distributor which still gives the disadvantage of all the lash in the timing gear.

But looking at it I see no reason why you couldn't fit a trigger wheel directly on the nose of the crank & take the engine signal from a VR sensor.

Reading the info again it does seem it's not quite the full 3D effort I originally thought it was, there are three models.

1) Vacuum & Engine Speed

2) Boost & Engine Speed

3) Throttle Position & Engine Speed

Still I have to say if I was still running the 14CUX & dizzy I'd be laying my £200 on the table tomorrow.

Big benefits, small outlay.

That makes it a no-brainer in my book.

Hi Dave,

Speaking to Paul (loud430) earlier today and he is very interested in knowing what setup your currently running.

I was unsure so could not be much help.

just a thought but wouldnt you be better off with something like a unichip where both fuel and ignition can be tweaked ?

secondhand they can be had for similar (or less) money

have you ever tried getting support from Unichip? - no sir you must take it to one of our dealers to set up. No good for anyone who likes to sort it them selves.

Its about bl**dy time someone did this- the 123 system is now totally overpriced (£500) and the Omex like wise for whats about £20 worth of electronics. It wont overcome the dwell issues from using one coil on a V8, but Ive yet to come across an engine that misfires due to lack of HT at 6000 plus RPM, so Im not going to worry about that.

Ill watch this one with great interest. smilesmilesmile

Think you will find it`s better suited with a Carburetor.. I often see the Caterham lads with one of these setups ,Do they need a trigger wheel?

I had no issues when I had one on my Pulsar GTIR.
a friend wired it in for me, and I had Powerstation in Cheltenham map it.

ok its a very different engine - turbo 4 pot etc but i saw a 28bhp gain after it was fitted and mapped (same boost, same mods, same rollers etc)

I know what you mean about doing things yourself, but tbh unless you have access to a rolling road then imo you are far better off having a professional map the car. (too easy to blow things up otherwise)
