Could do with some tips for removing the windscreen wiper motor from a 1995 400. The motor is in the engine bay on the nearside partially covered by the black mesh attached to the windscreen. Mine is a bit rusty and scruffy so I'd like to take it off and either polish or paint it. I'm looking for removal instructions as well as any tips on how you've cared for yours.

Thanks

Phil

1) Unfasten the two bolts holding down the "saddle" over the motor and remove the saddle.

2) Hinge the motor assembly upwards (it should rotate around the end of the wiper drive tube) and unplug the electrical connector.

3) If you wish to remove the unit completely then unfasten the bolt (17mm IIRC) that locks the wiper motor gearbox to the end of the wiper tube - remove the wiper arms and remove the wiper motor and gearbox withdrawing the wiper drive cord from the drive cord tube.

(If you're going to do this then I'd suggest rotating the wiper shafts by 180 degrees before reinstalling the wiper motor so that you are using the section of the drive gear that had previously been unused.)

connects to the park switch, notorious for failing as it sits in water a lot of the time, replace or at least check thoroughly while its out.

Good info gents, thanks. My park switch is working perfectly so presumably I'm just looking out for any corrosion to clean up or additional sealing when I put it back together?

Hi, If you difficulty in removing the wiper arms, you can undo the clamp, undo the 3/4" or 19mm nut on the linkage and pull out slightly( lift arms from the screen) and undo the cover screws(1/4") and remove linkage or as BF said if wiper arms come off just pull the whole lot through carefully avoiding your wing
Hope this helps
Jamie
