I have just (20 minutes ago) fired beastie up after she has lain dormant for the last four weeks in my mates garage. I've been looking forward to that moment since about ten minutes after I locked her up back in January. She always starts pretty much first turn, and last year she sat (in Summer) in the same garage for 6 weeks and still started first turn of the key.

Anyway, I'm waffling, on this occasion (about 25 minutes ago), one of my mates neighbours (a Portuguese chap with a limited command of the English language) was checking the engine oil level in his Vauxhall people thingy outside the next garage along. So, I shut beastie down, and as I'm closing the garage door, stare at my mates 350Z (parked outside the garage) wondering again why on earth he bought it, when next door neighbour says "Is it Diesel?" Somewhat shocked, I politely say "I beg your pardon?" and he repeats the word "Diesel". No mate I say, It's a three and a half litre petrol with a six speed box, they make em in Japan. No, not that he says, the one in the garage. The rest of the conversation is not really repeatable here but he does now know a bit more about British Sports cars than he did half an hour ago. FFS.

Yep I've been told mine sounds diesel or another time, when it was making a rather nice burble at low speed, that it sounded rough and probably needed a service!!. I guess that's what you get when you're used to listening to 1 litre Saxos with a paint tin sized exhaust on it. rolleyes

Chilli I'm very concerned for you after reading this post. Bit of thread-linkage here but are you sure the conversation was really all that insulting to poor Beastie? Or have you, in an entirely unintentional manner subconsciously made it seem worse than it was (to yourself, not us) in order to begin man-proving your 'need' for a 911 Turbo? Be careful Mr Oil Rig Person, the devious nature of attraction can be very subversive rolleyes

What?

It's simple. Pork & Cheese bloke thought beastie was a diesel. He's now added 'TVR' to his limited store of English Vocab' and is all the better for it. I also took the opportunity to explain to him that Porsche were for girls, MX5's were OK if you're ghey, there's no Portugeuse F1 drivers because Portugeuse people can't drive worth a toss, and that everyone in Europe drove on the wrong side of the road.

I finished this off by suggesting that he ditch the trouble and strife and the rug rats, grow a pair, and buy a proper car.

He thanked me for this new found knowledge, and promised to enlighten all his mates at home in Lisbon next time he's back visiting the family. He also kept looking at me over his shoulder as he scurried off, which, TBH, I found a trifle disturbing.

ETA: I don't work on an oil rig (no, honestly I don't), I work on boats, and I'm a cook. I do an awesome Penne al'arabiata, but my Morrocan lamb tagine is to die for smile

It's nice to see other TVR owners willing to go the extra mile and educated the ill-informed or ignorant. It's a public service after all, keep up the good work.

I show people the plug in the boot and tell them it's a plug-in hybrid hehe

They are then convinced that it is cheaper to run than their clio laugh

I love playing on peoples ignorance.

Now that is an excellent idea thumbup

Next some old Doris has a whinge at me, instead of blipping the throttle a few times I'll just pop the boot and show her the plug biggrin
