Ok - to start with this isn't going to be for everyone! There'll probably be a few Chim owners that would rather hire out their wife than their pride and joy!
But it's a serious offer.

The situation is as follows.

My car - a Chimaera 400 is booked to go on a european driving tour around the Italian lakes and alps on 30th May for 10 days.

I started the body off restoration on it in December and it's taking a lot longer than I'd hoped. I am seriously worried that it won't be back together in time.
The chassis is just getting it's repairs finished now and then I have to assemble the lot as well as fit the new engine, ECU system and brakes etc etc. The engine will need to be run in and tuned as well as thorough testing to make sure say a wheel isn't going to fall off halfway up an Alp.

There's no way I'm not going - this is a dream driving experience. I'm going with a mate who's taking his 66 mustang so I may need a Chim to drive if mine isn't ready.

I have a figure in mind of how much I'd be wiling to pay and I'll also make sure the car is serviced before I go and will be fully comp insured with euro breakdown cover and will be be retuned with a full tank. I will also leave a cash deposit.

If anyone is willing to consider it then please PM me.

Cheers!

I haven't actually bought my Chim yet (hoping to buy one next week), but it may be something I'd consider when I do get one.

Thankyou sir - what are thinking of going for? Got your eye on any one in particular? happy to offer advice on any potential purchase.

Loads! There seem to be a lot for sale at the moment, problem is they're all over the country. I'm still in 2 minds about the Chim TBH. So many people keep trying to put me off buying one - why are you selling a really well sorted, reliable BMW Z4 to buy a Chim!?!

Got my eye on these:

Plus 3 other forum cars which haven't been advertised yet.

Well that's easy!

Sense of occasion
Noise
Torque
Looks
Rarity

no disrespect - a Z4 is a nice enough car (and fast!) but it doesn't have the charisma and style and all the things mentioned above.
There's something about the TVR marque - it makes grown men gawp in the street open mouthed as you drive past. I even had one chap clap me as I went through clifton once! Don't get that with a Z4...... wink

I did see that site but they didn't have a Chim and it really has to be a V8 convertible so that only leaves the Grief which I think is very optimistically priced for what it is.

I think the insurance will be a problem. I have looked into this before and could not find anyone willing to insure a TVR for hire. If you know of a way I would be interested to hear...

I think your cheapest option would be to get the extra help in! Then you will know how well it has been looked after, what might fail etc. Sounds like a great trip though!

Bargain price for the Griff experience - also - if you're off to Italy you need all the style points you can get!

Sorry to hear your car might not be ready. You will definitely struggle with insurance if the car isn't registered to you and the person you hire it from will also have problems - pretty much every private policy has an exclusion on 'hire/reward'

Even the hire companies will load up the price if you want to take the car out of the UK...

My approach would be to crack on with your own, remember there are 168 hours in every week biglaugh

Can you insure a car, and then cancel within the 14 day cooling off period? I have no idea is this is allowed!

I would love to give you a hand rebuild your Chim, if you weren't so far away. I'd like to get to know them a bit better under their skin.

OP, buy another one then flog it when you get back wink

Pros: You won't be rushing the rebuild of your current car
If you buy carefully you might do well out of the deal/break even
Insurance impact probably minor
No difficult explanations to the cars actual owner if jonny foreigner drives into it and writes it off whilst you're admiring Lake Como
No living with guilt for the rest of your life if the above happens

Cons: You need funds and time to find one (and ensure it's up to the trip)

Hope this helps,

Chilli smile

Ryan,

Give me a PM with some numbers. I would help out a fellow enthusiast as long as my ass is covered.
