Thought I would share my experiences with a car cover I bought in Dec 2012.

My car lives outside and I needed a new car cover - the old one was getting tired, so after trawling through the PH forum and net, I eventually decided to purchase a Hamliton one. The cost seemed a lot, but you pay for quality, right? Well, I am now not so sure.....

After making the decision to buy (but before I parted with my hard earnt ££), I had to go to Halfords that afternoon to buy some parts and noticed this on the shelf...

The thing 'looked' similar, but was much cheaper than the Hamilton one, so (after a few well aimed prods from SWMBO) I opted to try the medium version....

When I got it home and unboxed it, you could see it as well made - and also had straps underneath to connect for windy days. Furthermore, it had huge elasticated areas at the front and rear....looking good smile

The medium size fits like a glove - the length is perfect and the sides have plenty of room for the mirrors. It also has the added bonus of the side straps - I haven't used those yet, as the cover fits so well.

The cover has seen rain, wind, snow and I am please to report it has kept the car dry - with little fogging up or condensation evident.

So, in summing up:-

1) I think it is great value for money

2) Fits well (both length and width)

3) Stays on even without straps

4) Has managed to keep out the worst of the weather we have witnessed this year (including snow!).

Hope this is useful to some of the brother(and sister)hood, who do not own garages (keeping their P&J stabled 'au naturel') and who are considering purchasing a new cover, try the Halfords one - you will be suprised.....

Regards
Nosh

Thanks for the info. Sounds great!

I'm going to be looking for an indoor cover to stop things in the garage damaging the car. I'll have a look in Halfords.

Good feedback Nosh, thanks thumbup

One of the things I liked about my Hamilton cover is the soft fleece lining which is extremly kind on the paint.

What's the inside of the Halfords one like?

While the Hamilton cover has been excellent, I must point out that the fleece lining started to break down after 2 years or so.

It's not a big deal, but it does leave a white dust on the car now.

While this dust is completely harmless, it is a bit annoying, as you need to go over the car with a duster to remove it.

I have the same cover as Nosh has from Halfords. great cover. I agree with all nosh has said, used it since the bad weather before christmas and its coped admirably.

The inside is soft material and glides over the paintwork, no problems there at all.

It might be brilliant, but as I do not own a Hamilton cover, I had to ask myself the question, "is it worth more than double the money of the Halfords one?"

I don't believe it is.... wink

Nosh, thanks for the review. My car doesn't normally live outside but in the summer while on holiday it does. Hopefully this will be used to protect the car from the sun as much as the rain! biggrin

Halfords have 20% off this cover at present so I've reserved one.

Ive had one of these for approx 2 years and its done the job well, originally purchased for a westfield i didnt expect it to fit the tuscan, It does but a little tight so med is the size to go for. I made the mistake of putting mine in the tumble drier and it has now deformed and shrunk a little, Doh.
I have just ordered a new one after noticing this post as there is 20 % off.
Cheers OP.

Is it the three layer grey one ? If so i have the same one but it`s used for inside .

Mine is a large ,what i like about the large one is it tucks right under the car .

very impressed with it ,read a few reviews and it could do with more straps for outside use .

So is medium the size to go for for a Tuscan?

Tuscan is 4235 mm long.

Large suits 4.1 to 4.6m.

When I first got my Chim I bought a Hamilton cover as had to keep it on the drive till I sorted out my garage. The cover was excellent but one thing I did notice was how it attracted the local cats to come and use it as a scratching post. Must admit, that Halfords cover does look a steal at that price.

Bought a stormforce cover 2 yrs ago for my chim at a cost of £160. It has spent half of the time outdoors. Just before christmas I noticed it he fabric was crumbling bad leaving a residue over the car.

Being a bit miffed at spending so much I opted for the halfords cover at £60. It seems to be doing the trick. You can see the water bead up and run off and its bone dry underneath. Lesson learnt.
