Ok if I need to fit a new camshaft is there any other mods I should do at the same time as it will dramatically reduce the costs due to the labour of already taking the cam out?

If I must endure the cost of the labour charge for replacing the cam, I might as well ask if I can piggy back something else onto it.

Thanks all

PS -Sorry for all the newbie questions.

Good luck with the new cam. I would assume they are replacing the finger followers aswell? Also whilst its all off, check the valley gasket as they are not expensive, i would fit a new one while they are doing the other jobs.

With the cam, they will replace the hydraulic lifters and should replace the Duplex chain and sprockets.

What are you after, wear and tear items or possibly go faster trinkets?

well the valley gasket and other suggestions will cover the wear and tear items.

for more go though, how about :-

ACT Superflare trumpets
or
ACT 45mm trumpets and port the base and manifold

Water pump, drive belt. That's less than 80 to buy.

There are no finger followers in a Chim they are specific to the Speed Six engine. The Rover V8 has hydraulic lifters, pushrods and rockers.

You could do the 1st cam bearing.. this one tends to take all the hammer... I know it's not good practice to do just one of these.. but I do know a few engine re-builders that only do this wink

I have been warned that occasionally the cam bearings are stuffed anyway but it takes a 1k bill to 3k

Just done mine at 50K and TBH they were fine... and I was told by two very well respected engine builders to olny do the front one wink

they are only about 50 for a good set... I'd be tempted to do that... The front one is easy smile

Just a quick question before the garage puts the car back together, do the exhaust manifolds need to come off for a cam change?

I'm just trying to work out if its an easy add on to take the pre-cats out at this stage rather than a job all on its own?

I know I should phone the garage and ask but its Good Friday.....

the mani's dont need to come off, but you may as well do it now whilst all the inlet stuff is off (it may save a little on labour charges)

Deffo get the precats out while the Y is off, probably no power hike, but in theory lower underbonnet temps and a nicer sound (alledgedly).... Had mine removed early on for these same reasons... no downside but good reasons for doing it.. particularly if at a later stage you want to fit a decat Y... saves the time later...
