Hi everyone,

So, you may have noticed from my posts I was looking for a Chimaera! See here:

Well, last week everything fell into place, I sold my Z4 and found a great looking Chimaera. So yesterday I took two trains and two tubes and eventually made it up to Cambridge to buy this stunning Iris Blue Chimaera 400. It's a 1997 car, so has the facelift front end but still has the older rear end. Also has the later door releases. It's had loads of work done, new outriggers, good dyno print out, lots of niggles sorted (like the hot start issue etc).

So here it is, the colour looks a little more purple in real life, but it's a pretty good representation:

Prior to it being cleaned this afternoon....

I'm very pleased so far.

I got home at about midnight last night in the torrential rain which was not fun! It aquaplanes on standing water and was generally very lively, but I made it back! I couldn't put it in the garage as my girlfriend's car was in the way and I was too tired to move it, but the inside of the car was bone dry when I went out to it this morning, so that's good. I don't plan on using it in the rain though.

Got to get used to folding the rear part of the roof down, not quite sure how to fold it correctly, but someone will tell me tomorrow when I go to a local PH meet I'm sure! Fuzzy?! I managed to get the roof caught on the seat belt so it wouldn't recoil! Also managed to get the carpet stuck on the accelerator and had full throttle down Twickenham High Street last night!! That was interesting!

Otherwise the car is in stunning condition. I'm really pleased with how good the paint is.

I'll be seeing you at the TVR meets I'm sure!

Dan

Very nice thumbup your bonnet needs alignment though quite badly before the paint starts rubbing through on the offside whistle make sure the hinge box is not breaking away from the bonnet sounds serious but its not & better to discover this earlier than later driving

Laaarvely. We have one in a very similar colour but ours is a 98 car and has the updated rear cluster.

Don't fold the roof back when it's cold as mentioned above. When warm you do a sort of karate chop in the middle of the plastic to get it to fold once neatly. Loosen the velcro fasteners on each side first, too.

The paintwork on yours is amazing.

Enjoy.

3rd pic down? Slight difference in gap down the sides of the bonnet? A bit tight on drivers side?.

OP not having a go at your car, only think mine is the same just never noticed! smile

Thanks for all the kind comments. Tips regarding the roof is useful! Luckily the car has a new rear window, so it's nice and soft, not brittle like the old ones. Also had a new front windscreen biggrin

Thanks for pointing out the bonnet too, I'd not noticed it before. Here's a photo of the underside, looks like the bolts are all in good order, how do you adjust it? I've not looked at it properly yet, just quickly took the photo.

Hi Zed4,

Nice choice, your car is identical to mine in every respect other than mine being a 97 P rather than R.
Iris blue is a great colour that really comes alive in the sun.

Have fun!

Hi Dan, lots of kind words of wisdom for other Pher's, you have been on this forum for sometime I see, but it has taken you along time and quite afew nice cars to get a real one, which looks stunning I might add.

Welcome to the world of silly grins smile

If you get really serious about the whole TVR thing as they do get under your skin, I would recommend joining the TVR car club also, and by looking at your profile you are hampshire based. They are an extremely active region with lots of events going on throughout the year.

Thank you. Yes, I've been on the forums a long time! I've had a couple of VX220's, so I'm not new to plastic cars!

I had a quick drive out in between the rain with the roof off yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Great noise and presence, just what I was after! I've just got up early for the F1, then I'm off for breakfast with a few Hampshire PH'ers at a pub in Lyndhurst.

I will definitely join the TVR Club, yes.

It does look good in those photos! That was just a snow foam clean, and a quick spray on wax. Didn't have time for a proper polish and carnauba wax this time. The car looks like it has a lot of wax on it already.

The paint does have some light swirls, so will need a detail at some point. I'm amazed there's no crazing, chips or cracks anywhere though!

Ooh yes, nearly identical. The sides of your centre console bit appear to be blue, mine are magnolia. Looks to be the only difference!

I'm going to borrow the big dehumidifier from work and put it in the boot when the car is in the garage, try and get the condensation out of that rear light!
