Needed to adjust Headlight alignment so have removed fibreglass cowls and started to scrape sealant off to get at 3 adjustment screws. To my surprise the headlight lenses came off withe sealant. Is this correct? Am using the bible but it does not mention this? I have some other questions for anyone who has done this before and can kindly help.

1. Is there an easier way of removing the sealant apart from fingernails or a plastic scraper. Any special fluid?
2. How do the lenses go back in, is it just enough sealant to hold? The lip at the top appears to fit inside the fibreglass?
3. What is best sealant to use?

Sorry, i know this has been covered before but search is not working again......

Cut the sealant off as carefully as you can with a stanley knife or other sharp blade and then with fingers or a plastic scraper so as not to scratch the paint. There should be a rubber gasket on the glass but the one supplied to me was far too thick so I just used sealant. The stuff you need is Polyurethane sealant/adhesive such as Sikaflex or Tigerseal. My headlamp adjusters are wing nuts at the rear of the bowls so you shouldn't need to take the glass off or remove any sealant. Access depends on which model you have. Early ones is through the grill and later ones have an access panel in the wheel arch.
Good luck, it's fiddly either way!

Most DIY stores will sell silicone dissolver, but scrape off as much as you can first

Like I said earlier, feel behind the headlight reflector you should find 3 x wing nuts. These are the adjusters. No need to tale any sealant off if your'e lucky.

Like locodude says you need to adjust the lamps from the rear. I have just changed my headlamp reflectors and it is a bit of a faff getting the lenses back on using only tigerseal, but do-able. Too much work for what you require though.

You can see the adjusting butterfly nuts here;

You'll find them no problem ...

... but the chances are they'll be rusted solid. biggrin

I've said this elsewhere;
I have never done it myself, but I have watched the man change my lamps and adjust them through the front grill (after removing the number plate).

TVR kindly provided little access panels inside the wheel arches as most will know. But using these is a bit of a strain itself; this I have done once myself frown and I swore "never again in this lifetime".

Amen. I did the reflectors on mine and that was a total and utter b😷stard. Everything corroded to hell and hard to get to.

Whatever price you are quoted, is cheap!

Did make a massive difference to night driving though.

Well.............as said before what a faff! Adjustment is by the 3 wingnuts behind the lights but both sides rusted solid. Have just about managed toget them both in line. Never again, next time it's into the TVR garage. Would be interested in how much for replacements as this will be next step me thinks.
If you are going to try this for yourself be prepared for a lot of swearing and skinned fingers!

Got them from here http://www.maginilighting.co.uk/product.php?produc...

They don't come with the adjusters so if yours are rusted up or break on extraction, you will need to get those separately from somewhere like RG.

I see the butterfly nuts, but which way do you turn them to bring the beam down? My o/s lamp is pointing towards the stars atm...

Hi, you need to turn the bottom wing nut clockwise, this will pull the bottom of the reflector down/inwards
hopefully lowering the beam.
I just hope they aren't totally rusted solid.
Best of luck.

Yes I've just been out in the garage and done that very thing. It has pulled it down quite a bit, but it feels like it's coming towards the end of its travel.
Am I supposed to be undoing/doing up the upper two as well to compensate?
