My car is completely standard but will be coming back to me fitted with a stealth cam.

It sounds gorgeous to my ears but I guess, as TVR's go, it's fairly quiet.

My history is bikes, Ducatis in particular. I had several Dukes with open pipes but if I'm honest I felt no difference in power, to the benefit or detriment.

So my question concerns sleeving or cherry bombs. Has anyone had a RR after a sleeving/cherry bomb fitment and what was the effect on power?

My aural preference is Cherry bombs but I do wonder if the power takes a step backwards.

Thanks all.

Unless you buy the fancy manifolds which are very expensive I think you can`t beat a standard exhaust and fully decatted.

Steve Heath Bible actually mentions some power loss on sleeved exhausts ..

That's what I've read but I don't really want to decat because of the MOT implications.

That looks like the only possible way to get even *MORE* heat under the bonnet than a standard system ... Jesus!

The point there is; equal length primaries.
Of course, that presumes equal flow in/out of all 8 cylinders.
In BBCs for example, unequal length intake and exhaust were considered a must, because of slightly better/worse flow on the intake side of 2 of the 4 cylinders on each bank. The difference was small(ish), if you ported the heads correctly, but it was always present.

There has been some talk on these forums of the discrepancy in charge rates into the RV8. Certainly when using the Rover manifolds and EFI.

I admire the fabricator's dedication to purpose in constructing those, I have to admit thumbup

Ahh Chilli old man... I can admire a piece of engineering, without wishing to incorporate into my own vehicle.

No fear of me doing any such thing to my old girl. She is quite happy as she is.

Unfortunately I didn't RR mine before or after but the car FELT better having gone the "Cherry Bomb" route - of course this is quite possibly down to the fact that is SOUNDS faster (to me)

It really does depend what you want... If you're looking to enter the p*ssing contest that is the search for the ultimate HP then maybe it's a bad idea to lose a few HP. On the other hand if you want to enhance the EXPERIENCE of driving the car, then I'd go for it.

I know a place that will do it for you at a very reasonable price - they custom make the mufflers (they are not Cherry Bomb brand but are very similar) - and they let you watch and take notes..

They are in Gloucester and I let them practice on mine (and several of my previous cars too LOL)

This from the man who sent me a link to the Pocharger website the other day laugh

Goat Boy is a North American & they put hopped up V8's in their kids prams.

Don't tell me Goat Boy doesn't secretly look at power adders like a teenage boy looks at porn.

And don't be fooled by his obsessive "Keep it Standard" mantra.

Big horse power V8's are in his blood so I think the originality thing is all an act wink

To test my theory I put Goat Boy in a pen with with a blown Chevy Malibu, you tell me if he likes it.

I like mine as standard. I had sports pipes on a Jag, better top end but naff everywhere else, my concern would be the noise at 1900-2200 revs, the standard system is the business anyway. Personal choice me thinks. A bespoke system does look nice, but I kinda like my bustbin! If you went bespoke youd surely want more power! Cost a bomb to get it right. Turbo!!!! Nos!!!!! Another thing entirely.

On a standard car it would be good pre cats out, slightly sleeved, and a couple of mm bigger bore pipes to the rear. Would that not do it? Good man with a welder and pipe benders, job done. Lol.

I went down the cherry bomb route, and absolutely love it.

It's not much louder, but the tone is a lot deeper, and more burbly. I love the pops it makes on overrun too.

No noticible power difference, but then it's only going to be 5-10bhp, which I doubt you would really notice anyway.

Bloody great, for all my jibber I'd like a couple of decibels louder? I wouldn't put my head too near the air intake, suck your brains out, how do you see, angled mirrors. You got to love that.
