I'm going to be taking the Chim to Spa (beginning of May) and Le Mans this year, and while she is booked in for a service mid-April, I was looking at spare bits I should consider taking as a "just in case" measure.

Finding which parts are recommended is pretty easy, but trying to decide where to buy them from, less so!

So, what sites/sellers would you recommend using for quality bits? I will assume those not mentioned should be avoided. wink

To give a general idea of what I will be potentially picking up/fitting -

Rotor Arm
Coil
Distributor Cap
HT Leads (Magnecor?)
Bulbs
Fuses
Silicone hose kit
Induction kit
Braided fuel hoses (already purchased)
Throttle cable
Relays(?)

Thanks!

I went to one this morning, I won't name them in case they were having an off day, but they are quite big in the TVR world. I thought I was driving 80 miles for a new part, when I got there, not only was it clearly used and (with a split wire) but was a fair bit more than they said on the phone.

I left empty handed basically, put me right off buying online as if these places will hand that over with a straight face, they won't think twice about posting it out.

If you are replacing a lot of parts for preventative reasons and not necessary worn out. Then its probably worth keeping some of the bits as spares to carry on your travels. This will give you some extra peace of mind and you cant assume a new part wont fail or get damaged.

Bulbs are nothing special any motor supplier can provide these, same with Fuses.

I would keep Rotor Arm, Coil and Distributor Cap. The longest HT lead.

It's thinking about which parts could possibly leave you stranded, if they fail. Induction kit wont leave you stranded. Then there are the emergency bits e.g. Gaffer tape, cable ties, electrical chocolate blocks, Jump leads.

So far I have used ACT, Clever Trevor and Powers for parts. No probs with parts from these suppliers.

I've used the Halfrauds/Bosch HT Leads for the last 10-years (replace the whole lot every other year)???

Sprinting & Speed Hillclimbing with TVRCC. At £28/32 a set, I can't go for the £50/75 sets, even if they are blue and faster................weeping

Brilliant, thanks all! It was kind of a catch all list, but has certainly answered my question! smile

Knowing who to buy from is half the battle.

Is the ignition amp then less likely to fail?

If you are going to the effort of replacing all the ignition parts, then personally I would do the ignition module as well. I think the symptoms of this failing are a miss fire.

about 20m of electric wire might be useful if you need to run a makeshift connection or two
