My windows were very slow and the motors seemed to be struggling to move the window, going both up and down, it's been bugging me for ages, so today I got round to seeing if I could improve them.

I tried the usual silicone spray on the runners but it didn't really make much difference!

After taking the door speaker out, the window motor mechanism is clear to see and what I noticed was a plastic bung at the top of the motor, I removed it (just pulls out) and and dropped some oil in it as it looks like its a maintenance point.

Following this I activated the windows and they were much quicker, a bit more oil released a bit more speed and smooth action, to the point they are more or less as quick as my daily driver.

Not sure if all Chims have the same motor (mines a 1999).

Worth a go if your windows are slow and only takes 10 mins each side!

Nice, thanks. I need to change the runners on mine as the window won't run inside it, rather next to it, so I'll oil the motor too.

Handy bit of advice that, thanks thumbup

I've noticed my driver side is getting a tad slow, so I'll give this a shot.

I thought it was tradition to time the window speed on a Tvr with a calendar?

Agreed, they were none to quick when new, either.

my drivers window runs up and down fine and at speed, but it has dropped back into the rear runner and doesnt sit ptoperly in the front one, its as if the 2 runners need bringing together as there is alot play between rubbers runners and the window, any help on adjust ment would be grateful. the high is fine and I can adjust that bit smile

Good thread, will try at weekend, set off from Derby on Sunday started to close the window as a bit chilly, got home to Barnsley ( 70 miles) just as it finally closed smile

This has been covered many times, for me the only way was a couple of relays to supply 12 volts rather than the 8 you get as standard! Quite simple to do just before the wiring goes into the door.

Would you care to give a bit more of a detailed account, for the uninitiated, of which I am one? Some photos would be nice.thumbup

I've not done it, nor have I taken the dash apart, but at a guess I would say to take a decent supply from somewhere, maybe directly from the battery, and use the switched feed from the window switch to operate a relay. Depending on the state of the wires through the door to the motors, they may need to be upgraded, I don't know.

Interestingly, my passenger window is really fast, the drivers one is slower, but acceptable.
