Brand New Chim Anybody ?
Discussion
I just saw this in the classifieds - http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...
Would there be any problems registering a car like that now? It will never comply with the new emissions regulations etc.

What would the road tax be ? a new car with those emission would be over £1000 the first year then around £500 a year after ..Would there be any problems registering a car like that now? It will never comply with the new emissions regulations etc.
The car would not have to meet modern emission standards. The build date can be different to the DVLA registered date. So the emissions would be based on the build date.
If I had the money I don't think I would buy it, depending on how well it was stored, rubber perishes, seals will leak, It's going to need more money spent on it getting it drivable.
I would rather buy something for less than £10k and spend £20k on it, that would be something really special built to your specification. I better start saving...

wouldnt the tax be based on the engines build year ?
I think so, that or the chassis build date. That's what happened when catalysts came in, TVR built extra chassis' to extend the time when they had to fit them. There's remarkably little information in the advert, I'd like to know how it has remained unregistered for 12 years (if I was in the market) and details of how it has been cared for. Potentially it could be a great car, but I would be concerned about the state of seals in the engine and fuel system if it's not been used

Haven't we seen a thread like this recently?
Is this one of the Cypriot 'warehouse finds' posted about a year or so back? The two of them had rear high level brake lights which we cannot see in the photos due to no rear view!

I recently saw, at a well known dealer's, a Griff SE completely original with an asking price at or a few pounds over it's new price. 4400 miles on the clock.
That's what I like to see; prices going up.
This Chimaera was up for discussion in another thread quite recently.
Personally, if I weren't still in love, and if I were ever likely to be interested in a 4L car, I would jump on it.
There is no experience like owning a car from 'new', especially one of these.
