I've noticed a strange intermittent chirping noise at low speed, it stops temporarily under acceleration or braking. Car is running OK and there are no grinding noises, it sounds like a birds nest. I've had the wheels off and had it on a ramp and can't see anything amiss, or any sparrows.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Cheers.

It could possibly be something trapped behind a brake disc, like a small stone (I used to get this on my 5 series a few years back) so it it worth eliminating this first.

However, it sounds like it may be something suspension related. It is possibly worth checking all of your bushes on the suspension (springs/ dampeners/ arms etc) and greasing where necessary as things have a habit of drying out. If it is 'chirping' rather than 'squealing', then it suggests small and short movements where friction is occurring, as opposed to a longer friction based movement that would cause a prolonged squeal (if you catch my drift). It may also be worth checking the pulleys and belt on the engine.

mine's doing it, especially at idle. We're pretty sure it's the exhaust mountings

Do your rear drop link brackets on the lower wishbones have any signs of cracking, the cracked metal can squeak as it flexes.

me?
just had new Leven drop links fitted by my TVR guy, so hopefully not.....
....when it goes back in next week for an oil change (been running in a new engine) it will go up on the ramp with the engine idling to find the squeak once and for all.

I did get a loud "clunk" today from the rear, but on stopping and reversing back I found it was caused by a 12/13 mm double reversible ratchet headed ring spanner that was lying in the road. Not a type used by either my TVR guy or myself. As I was 800 yards from a village garage, I think they might be short of a rather expensive spanner.....

Sorry, I was answering to the op, I note yours is making the sound at a standstill, so couldn't be brake or suspension related

I didn't read the OP throughly. Possibly pulleys, cabin/ body fitting or something on the engine that is causing the chirping. High frequency, short movement.

Actually, my exhaust mounting noise can also happen at low speed, so long as the car is on idle, as the exhaust is being shaken by the engine
