What should I ask for my Chim?
Discussion
Hi all, Typical, I get the Chim I want after months of hunting, sort out a few teething probs (leak & brakes) and immediately find that I 've a new job and my pride has to go, can't afford three cars!
So, mine's for sale, question is what's a fair price?
It's a 4.0, done 49,000 miles. Thanks to some knuckleheads putting a key down it a while back it's been completely resprayed so has an immaculate body! Navy leather & carpets, 6 disc CD.
What's it worth guys & gals?

Depending how quick you want to sell it, I'd start it off at about £17k
I would say £14/15k would be more realistic, and then expect it to hang around a while. There are quite literally shedloads of Chims for sale at the moment. buyers can afford to be choosey and the only way of attracting a buyer is to price 'competatively' (read slash the prices).
Just my 2p worth - oh and less than the above if anything needs doing (service for example) or there's no PAS (which people like for some reason, and adds a premium)
What you want and what you get are two totally different things. you might think it's worth £17k but believe me (and I don't mean to sound harsh) you will get no serious enquiries at that level.
R-reg? Depending on mileage and spec I would expect to pay no more than £12-£14k at the moment for a private buy at the very most.
A mate of mine acquired a 5 litre R reg for under £14k and it's a stonker - go figure.

Thanks for all that! Massive range in prices there!! When I bought it I literally wrote down a full page of A4 with all the Chims that were in my "bracket". Obviously dealers will ask a premium, most of my era were £17-£17.5! Not withstanding that, mine looked quite a bargain compared to the other private prices and it was mid-way in the range of the prices mentioned here.
Sold my Silver S - plate with 65,000 on the clock in August.
Got no response at all from Auto Trader - a waste of £53 and endless phone calls from other companies who want an £80 finders fee up front to sell your car.
One of them said " we have 100's of people looking for a car like yours ....... so what car have you got?" to which I respond " you should bloody know you've got 100's of people waiting for it"
Idiots
Anyway as I said not one call from Autotrader.
I had it up on Pistonheads for £15,995 - no calls.
Put it to £14,995 - had some emails but no-one rushed to see it.
Dropped it to £13,995 and sold it instantly and still have people calling/emailing me.
I suppose its down to how quick you want to sell it and how much you can afford to lose.
Good Luck.
