I think my clutch might be fked.

I've never had this problem on any car, but basically if I'm doing 50 in 5th and I accelerate the revs increase but my speed doesn't, the lower the gear I go for, the more purchase I get.

I also had an incident earlier where I accelerated in 5th at 60, it redlined and I got a nice waft of burning clutch into the cabin.

How much is this going to cost me I wonder?

Roughly £500 which is mainly labour for pulling out the engine.

Get them to fit a braced or upgraded pivot arm and new thrust bearing while they are in there.
The pivot arm gets punched through with wear and is a common problem with LT77 boxes.

Off topic but my engine in the process of being removed for a different matter and the garage have told me I can get a clutch change for just the cost of parts whilst the engine is out.

The car has done 77k so I guess that's a yes.....

Any recommendations for garages to do the work? Live in Herts. I've asked Techniques for a quote, I won't be going to the bds in Ware that I probably can't name.

Sent off an enquiry, cheers. Might be a bit optimistic given the distance, still drives but not good.

The parts cost isn't bad, so get them to fit an AP one from TVR Power. It's the labour cost for dropping the box off or whatever. If they can do it by removing the box it ought not to be more than three or four hours work.
Mine was done while the engine was out, so a no brainier, as said above. Thanks for reminding me - I can take the cost of supplying and fitting a new clutch off the man maths that is the cost of my new engine (it only went in for a service and to ave the exhaust manifolds welded).

Thanks for the advice. Will get on the phone in the morning, itching to get it fixed. Took it out earlier and it's pretty much unusable now.

2 quotes so far, both £720 all in for a Borg and Becker. Seems a bit steep to me.

Does that seem about right?
