As tittle suggests I had my new second hand dash fitted on Friday, washed the car down etc yesterday. Now here's the problem, I've just stood there looking at her, filled with excitement........ She now looks as good as the car I watched hundreds of yuppies snapping up many years ago at the Car show NEC 1990's.

I've had her 16 months, re built her to this standard, as I say here's the problem

I'm actually starting to not want to drive it in the wet. Trackdays seem madness, I'm even thinking of driving directly to the shops instead of via Tim buc too! What's wrong with me, it's starting to be like a model aeroplane to be hung and admired,,,,, not actually used. I thought I'd be allover the country,,,,,, now I'm conscious of how many miles said destination might be.

I'm almost in a state of shock, I mean ive driven this car day in day out throughout, never droke down, I had a vision of how the car should be before other Chim owners could look at her, the first 6 months the car was an embarrassment, well she's there, kind of the last piece of the jigsaw was replacing the multi cracked metal showing through old dash, got a lovely rich deep coloured wooden one from a fellow PH, ok the car needs a new carpet set etc but she is now looking exactly as my dream car should. It's overwhelming at the moment, dreams do come true.

This is my osca speech,

I have so many people to thank, tears welling up, I'm serious it's thanks to a number of very honest people to start with then all you pistonheaders who have informed me, made me laugh, angry lol, mainly gave me the confidence to carry on.

It's just the start really but in essence my car feels brand new. I/we are lucky boys and girls. I'm a nutter but the money it's cost has long gone, the cars gonna be there for another 10 years at least.

This thread has no point really but we often read of the woes of others battling to get there cars good, just keep going, when it's finished they do look a Million Dollors.

Only once since I've owned mine have I watched someone else drive it away from me, jeez hellsbells what a smashing car. We must look proper cool. Lol

One happy tiv boy. Have a great day peeps.

Nice story but when those warm summer days arrive, I'm sure you'll want to be out and about in it.

Get some pics up for us all to see!

Another post from the heart biggrin Keep it up Alun, they're always great to read...

Regarding your problem, quoted above, I can totally relate to how you're feeling. I'm nearing the end of my modification journey (he lied to himself), and should get the car back end of this coming week, complete with faired in headlights and front end respray. And I'm already worried about driving beastie home.... what if I get a stonechip? what if the weathers crap? will I hit another concrete plinth on a motorway petrol stop? will these be big grin miles or just miles? I actually fell asleep last night thinking about these things... confused

Maybe we need to get out more smile

Cheers mate,

Chiili

I've put loads of time and money into mine over the last 6 months for the sole purpose of driving and enjoying it at every opportunity.

Go drive it!

With apologies to Alun for a thread hi-jack, Chilli could you post some pics of your faired-in lights when you get yours back please? I'm trying to convince Kate's co-owner (my wife) that it would be a good move for us. I was directed to a supplier for a DIY kit recently, looks do-able and without cutting or painting.
And back on topic, Alun's entertaining post struck a chord. I'll be getting Kate back from a partial respray this coming Friday, now nearing the end of 18 months of much work and exhausting man-maths to justify it all. And then...touring Scotland, Chatsworth, Wiltshire, Notts, days out, car shows and meets, BNG, the list goes on and all I worry about is spoiling her perfection. Ah well, when the sun comes out...

Ha ha ha ha ha, you see I kinda agree, whilst I enjoy all the engine money spent. The bodywork etc was painful, I don't mind scratches, that's just life!

In a weird way it's the journey doing it all that's half the fun.

Stop the press I retract all I've said. I've been sad it's all done in someway! Just been underneath, it's worse than I thought,,,,,,, oh good, anybody got a thread on new chassis please, lol.

I've got a list ticked off, I feel another one coming on, phew that's better, if the cars not a constant drain/ excuse then I dont feel quite right!

Thanks for the kind words chaps, I feel much better now im back down to earth, now ive got that excited yet still terrified feeling, isnt that proof of ownership in itself!

And as if by magic the suns out the roofs off exactly in time!

I'm a dunce and have no idea how to download pics. I like my car being abit secret, lol lol lol lol .

Looks the business. Yellow really is a great colour for a TVR.

Last summer I started getting a polishing urge......then went on a track weekend and collected about 200 stone chips. Closely followed by the bloody mice chewing my carpet edges. A better man than I would have gone and got a front end respray. I did get the carpets re-trimmed. The bds chewed them again!!

So now I do nothing cosmetic. Instead I upgraded the engine. 4 track days booked. 750 miles driven since Tuesday.

It comes down to a choice. Concourse or Concorde. Polish it or hurtle around in it. You can't do both.

You bought it. It's your choice and nobody can say you are wrong.

shout OI Snap out of it man, Wake up and smell the petrol, All this talk of no detours to the shops etc and models.
Take all the detours, and let everyone admire your dream machine, pull up in Tescos car park and lift the bonnet, rev the nuts of it and attract all the male shoppers (burnt Vmax is a pherimone).
Show off the work of art under the bonnet, offer them to view the new interior and the glass like paint,
Then leave them in a plume of smoke and burnt toyo after you have fulfilled your man duties.
Then after returning home home say thankyou to the car for joy it brings and repeat on a regular basis.
This is only one secret of TVR ownership, and I am everyone has thier own
Hope this depression leaves you soon and I wish you all the best sir.

Alun, mate, if you make it to Snetterton with a few spare quid in your pocket, book yourself in as an additional driver on my car (I think it was £25 at Bedford) and bring your skid lid and you can drive mine around (and anyone else's for that matter). drivingYou need the wrist bands even to go out as a passenger IIRC.

I really do like that look, plus it helps knowing later Chims had the fairings anyway so could be argued as an 'original' feature. Just need to convince the missus...

I took a few pics of Chims with faired in (and Lupo) lights at the Neil Garner open day, happy to email them to you (or post up if you start another thread) if further inspiration is needed.
Lights are the next thing I'll look at sorting (after fitting my Corrado mirrors).

It's tomorrow or never for Marham - booking closes on Wednesday.

If you want to come with me to Snetterton, all you have to do is get yourself to Newark on Trent, either farcically early (about 5.30 am) on the day, or come over the night before and stay - we have plenty of space. It's about two hours to Snetterton from mine, and the briefing is at 8.30, sine qua non, so we need to depart by 6.00. On the right tyres, as four wheels and tyres and two of us won't fit in one car.

I will have done 1000 miles by tomorrow night, oil change ec Thursday, so I can probably manage 1500 by next Weds. Then 100 to get to the circuit. It'll have to do.
