Ouch! Let,s hope it didn't bend anything else.
Maybe you should take a picture of the pothole and try claim your money back from the council, I think most a have a person to go through these days.

Good luck with the council. Hit a pothole in my gti, was 6" wide and 4" deep, raining, full of water. Shredded tyre and completely knackered 18" monza alloy.

council said ... Unlucky, don't drive into potholes.. I tried everything and several months of hassle.. Nothing.

hope u have better luck.

If at first you don't get anywhere, small claims court summons. Plenty of photographic evidence will help

Ouch - key to claiming is to be able to show the Highway Authority has breached it's duty to maintain somehow. Defects do appear and the council just has to act reasonably in the measures it has in place to discover and address problems. Ask for the inspection and report log for that road, if it was inspected within a month ago forget it unless the hole falls within their 'emergency' category (all holes will be graded according to depth, size, road type and whether 'square edged') frown If they have no inspection record or have left this defect unaddressed for longer than their repair policy states for the grade of hole then definitely worth a shot but don't expect them to roll over

Sorry to see the damage, I hope my experience of the same will help;

Report the hole on the council website - take a screenshot of any other reports of same hole or anyone else who writes back to reply about size of hole/length of time it's been noted.

Take photos of the hole with a tape measure in the shot illustrating depth/width. And show the location of the hole relative to bends etc. and your direction of approach.

A picture of the damage will help, plus associated costs, don't forget 4 wheel alignment, time taken out of your busy work life etc.

It took 6 months to get my compensation. They will appoint solicitors to handle the claim, who will ask for your certificate of motor insurance. Refuse to provide this on the grounds that it is irrelevant to the case, they will then settle in due time.

Good luck and persist, they are hoping people will lose the will to pursue claims.

That stinks. Not the same but I hit a pothole on my road bike. Landed straight on my head. Would have killed me if I didn't have a helmet on. Took loads of pics and a note of the location. I wanted to claim the cost of a new helmet but the council were saying that the road was inspected 2weeks before which was bks.

Best of luck with it and don't let up with the pressure on the bds.

It's a joke, I hit one, flatted a wheel! 35 quid later to repair, tyre still loses air!
How much tax is paid by us road users, oh don't get me started, that looks a bit extreme mind, keep us posted as to what's given way!

It's not just the north!
I hit this monster, at about 30 at night. That's a 30cm tall bottle of two stroke oil for reference.
Destroyed my wheel and tracking on left side, ripped my tyre off and generally sounded as though the world had ended.
I dread to think what the damage would have been if I had been in the chim!

It happened to me a few years ago. Put a large crease in one of my alloys wheels and a pinch in the tyre. If the pothole was concealed by water, you'll need to demonstrate this. You need to return to the pothole with a camera and a tape measure and then contact the council. They'll send you a claim form out. The roads are normally the responsibility of the County council as opposed to your town council. There is a pothole reporting site I think, where you can pinpoint the holes and upload your photographs, plus it gives you advice with respects to claiming for the damage.

I was driving down the A2 in the chime a couple of days ago (trying to make the most of the the sun) and it was full of potholes. They really are a nightmare in a low sports car.

Put a duvet in the boot and that car is placed perfectly to catch the biker and give him/her a soft landing mad

Boo! Hiss! I want to collect everyone responsible for not maintaining the roads, line them all up and kick each one in the shins.

Anyway I went and got these this morning. Just about to fit them now.

Check out this site:

If you find your pothole on here. You might stand a better chance of claiming if it's been reported before. thumbup
