After a good clean you can really tell... yuck!

So - what's the easiest, cheapest way of getting them to look nice ?

Do I need to break things to get at the reflectors?

You've got a really nice shine on the paintwork!

No real drama with the headlights as in taking it apart, the reflectors will need re-silvering, I have read a post somewhere on here that both were done for just under £40, google will be your friend

I see now how to do it... a hatch and some bolts. a bit of careful picking and levering....

Looks like a replacement set may be easier; Lupo - but so many to choose from - anybody got the angel eyes (I'm a fan of DRL - or just having the lights on) - or does it have to be specific year of lupo light ?

The GTI angel eyes come in at £300 second hand .. Both the early and later Lupo lights fit ,the only difference is the incorporated indicators .You can then change your indicators for driving lights .

After market ones are around £99 the pair ,they also come in smoked glass.

Oh cheers - wow - seems a much better bet than re-chroming imvho.

Roll on some clement weather - this could be my first real project on the old lady.

(Dunno if I like the smoked...)

I don't want to spend that amount of pennies - I do think they are the dogs though - Like a proper le mans car.

I think the reflector is the worst affected - looking closely at them you can see it's all rusted (it looks rusted, does chrome plate not just peel? Why does it look rusted?)

Mine are a bit pitted and could do with a re-chrome in the near future. I contacted Ashford Chroming via Yell.com, who quoted £180+VAT+P&P. Utter madness...

Holy Moly! + a week or so without headlights, of course! I just can't see them being worth saving - it's not like they are Front Surface Mirrors or anything special...

Awww man. Here we go... My wallet warned me about this. I'll have a chat with local TVR people next week - see what they say.

The other option is buying new lights but these are about £180 each, as I found out the other day.

If you do go down the rechromed reflector route then it may be worth replacing the lens, which are about £60 each

Just had mine re-chromed at the local platers £36 inc vat for the pair. I did burn off the old coating for them first tho'. Definitely worth a punt at that price.
