Folks

Just picked up my new chim on Thursday and managed the 500 mile trip home with no issues. Different story today thoughfrown

Basically when the clutch engages there is now an obvious whine / screech noise, which lasts for a second or so. In reverse with the clutch depressed there is an almost constant sound. Also seems harder to engage the clutch smoothly.

I'm leaning towards an issue with the release bearing, but any other ideas (and the difficulty replacing this) would be much appreciated.

Car is a 94 with T5 box and the clutch is less than 2 yrs and 12k miles old.

Cheers.

As well as the above, there is now a constant screech when stationary with the clutch pedal fully depressed. Goes away when you release the pedal.

Sounds like the release bearing. A new one should have been fitted with the new clutch and should last more than 12k miles. They're not expensive but it's a gearbox out job to fit a new one.

I'd stil bet on the release bearing as it's a brass bush on the Rover V8 and not a needle roller so wouldn't normally squeal but for what they cost you may as well change them both as the 'box has to come out either way.

So your talking about the spigot bearing then!

Yes sorry, the spigot bearing is a brass bush.

If you bought it from a dealer they are your first port of call for a fix. If a long way away then they should make a contribution...

+ 1 for the spigot. Mine was slightly worn and squealed and grinded and made allsorts of strange noises. It may only be a simple brass bush that costs a few quid but i spent a lot of wasted time changing the release bearing then the clutch before realizing what a spanner i had been.

Had it in to TVR Ecosse yesterday, they also think it is likely to be the release / spigot bearing. Will know for sure hopefully once the box comes off.

Have to say Barry the owner of TVR Ecosse and Philip Phedonos who supplied the car have both been very keen to help.

They seem to be making clutch hydraulics from cheese these days. On the up-side you'll get a new one with a warranty. My guess is someone else is paying?
