oil gauge issues
Discussion
Driving along enjoying life and noticed the oil gauge was at zero. Slightly unnerved I tried to pull over and managed to about a mile later.
In the interim, the gauge jumped briefly to read >90, for a few secs, and then returned to zero. It did this 2 or 3 times.
When I pulled over the old girl was indeed low on oil, although not empty, and I topped her up post-haste.
Gauge, however, still reads zero, with the odd jump to over 90. I have re-checked the oil on the dipper and its still all in there.
Anybody any ideas? Gauge was fine yesterday if memory serves.

You need a new sender, not expensive if you know where to look.
Easy to fit too.

People said my cheapo E-Bay sender wouldn't last, but it's been giving excellent service for over 2 years now.
Since fitting it my TVR gauge also gives readings that match a decent Sykes Pickavant gauge plumbed into the main gallery.
Something my original TVR sender never did!
So it's cheaper, gives faster readings, is more reliable & delivers a far more accurate reading.
Others are using it too, with similarly good results.
20 minutes to fit including jacking/supporting the car & making up a little earth fly lead.

Just next to the oil filter/ in front of the sump on the offside. See pic below. You'll need to jack the car up and place on axle stands to get to it.
As recommended, check the sender spade connection. Failing that, it is likely to be a faulty sender. They're not expensive to replace. There are some for sale in the PH Classifieds that are a direct replacement for the TVR sender or others available on Ebay. Opinion is divided as to which one is best. My direct replacement stopped working and the Ebay sender gives totally different pressures. Six of one/ half a dozen of the other; or; stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. Pay your money, take your chance!
See thread below for further info.
