I now have a gutless 1.2diesel polo company car so the time is right to get a car Ive always wanted which is a 4.5 l Chimaera

Just done a tescos insurance quote and it was huge! I had a Stag 3 yrs back and classic insurance on that was only £150 can you get this kind of insurance for these cars or specialists who insure the tvrs cheaply?

Thanks Simon

Yes, but is has to be garaged to qualify for classic insurance (although I stand to be corrected).

Mannings (TVR Insurance Specialist) were one of the better ones when I last looked and will be my next port of call when I'm out of this damn 'Multicar' policy.

Simon,
Try ManningUK - over 10 years old counts as a classic - limited mileage policy - Depending on your profile / geography could be circa £300/£400 mark.

This is the place for advice if you have a TVR, lot of experience on here. Do be sure to read up about the common issues before buying one, so you head into the 'relationship' with your eyes open!!!

ha ha thanks Chris

The beauty of this is that I have my first company car so the Chim would be my fun car. My Stag and other cars in the past have all been daily drivers and as much as Ive loved them when Im commuting with work etc they used to be a pain

This I will use for fun and to chill with at weekend

Speak with RH Insurance. They let me keep my Chimaera on the drive as the Stag was in the garage! Think I pay roughly £300 pa for 5000 miles with a couple of good extras.

hehe My Griff was on drive not in garage. tongue out
I paid 250-300 pa for 5,000 limited miles classic policy with A-Plan when I had mine (admittedly a couple of years ago).

MSM Insurance are also worth a shot.

I've had my Chimaera insured with them for three years now, & no one has ever beaten their price yet.

But just keep in mind, with insurance, cheap is not always best!

You'll only find out how they treat you after the worst has happened.

In my experience MSM have also proved to offer excellent service, chasing down a French driver that put a small chip in my wing when he opened his door into it.

I paid nothing for a perfect paint repair, done by the best in the TVR paint business, "Surface & Design".

Try MSM , you may be surprised at the quote, and you can be sure of great service too if you ever need to claim.

RH insurance wouldn't insure my Chim as it was under 16 years old. Next year will be ok then.

I actually went on one of the comparison websites as it was cheaper than anything I could find from the 'specialist' insurers.

My car is not garaged but on a private drive, zero NCB as this is a second car (the policy I have is NCB qualifying though), 5,000 miles pa, rural location - just under £360.

Good luck.

30, license 4 years, no NCB, kept on drive, £350 excess. £560 for the year. Classicline were by far the cheapest for me. They quote exactly the same price on any TVR as long as its more then 10 years old and worth less than £20k.

+1 for mannings.

My spitfire lives in the garage and the chim on the drive. £350 with £100 excess and 5k miles with agreed value.

Mannings on a classic policy were great for me at £350 for the year. Sadly, I like driving the car too much for the 5k milage ceiling and had to change it for a normal policy which was a touch dearer at £650.

I'm £700 renewal next month and I'm 21 hehe

I plan on cancelling the insurance just after my birthday in july. Then I'll be a year older + license held a year longer = £500ish insurance. Don't have classic insurance, just boggo standard admiral multicar.

I have my parents as named drivers. I won't tell them though. laugh (reduces cost of insurance by £900!)

Mannings for me - chim 450 lives on the drive.

A bit left field but also try multi car with aviva. They came out at only a few quid more than mannings when I asked them how much the chim would be. But then I mentioned a few minor mods and it was game over....

R&H for me - very helpful, up to 5 named drivers FOC, breakdown cover and 3mths euro travel cover included - circa £350p/a.

The vehicle needs to be 11yrs old to qualify, they covered my 1999 Chim no problem. Also no "no claims" required, hence was able to use that on my Tuscan.

Been told you don't get a no claims bonus when on classic insurance.
