Snetterton trackday today, some seriously fast machinery there and I was in two of them! Big thanks to QBee for hsving the bravery to let me sample his new 5.0 engine, errr it's bloody quick. What a good day all in all, as usual a few issues. Tyres rubbing wheel arches and Phazed welded wheel sadly let go, all in all the Chims ripped up the track.

QBee is a sophisticated kind of chap, 'oh I'm not that fast' well he seemed to be going very well to me!

He's having us on, he can do a bit can that boy! Phazed car felt really good, planted, stable, got abit of vibration from prop UJ towards the end, well all day but Phazed don't let much stop him. I'm sure he feels a little frustrated but he has a great attitude and a fantastic car.

QBee organised a garage so we could change/ swap wheels etc in comfort. Lots of top chaps there today and some top draw machinery whaling past all day.

Good god I even shook Jonathon Palmers hand as he walked past and asked me why all the tiv's were here. Very pleased to see us he was!!!

Can't wait for Marham at the wk end,

Reminder to myself get brake pads, they don't last 5 mins!!

Saw the chopper, didn't realise it was le grand fromage himself. Too busy trying to remember which bend came next......

Thanks to the excellent pit crew. We didn't quite manage changing all four wheels and tyres in 3.1 seconds, but weren't too far from 3.1 minutes with Peter on battery powered thingy and nuts, Alun organising and passing circular objects, and me jacking (as usual, you cry). We changed wheels and tyres on both cars at least twice each.

Great day, two T350s, three Chimaeras, Peter as organiser, Alun as cheerleader and test driver. Well pleased with my new engine. One spin, three trips over the scenery. Just got to sort out the front suspension and the tyre rubbing on the rear wheel arch. Never a dull moment with a TVR.

Anthony it seems to me you have two choices, get a mod like peters arches, or use the yoka's. Personally I'd get the front shocks and front ride height sorted first, your car would be more stable and the yoka's would work better, there also a bloody good tyre.

The problem stems from so much more power, it's squatting the rears down under acceleration and lifting the front up, braking you have such a dip in the front, huge weight transfer, saying all that the car went and felt really nice.

Again Anthony you seemed to have vibration at the back y der braking, I'd suspect a warped O/S rear disc. Just guessing.

All things considered you looked as fast as most up the hill on the start straight.

Driving my car home, my cars abit to hard I'll soften them again just a tad.

My car does not respond on the throttle anything like yours, much less torque but mine seems pretty good from say 3000 onwards, still alot less power than yours. I'd be very pleased if I were you.

A few more tweaks/ for fast driving and your cars on the money.

Thanks for that thoughtful summing up Alun.

I will most likely run on the Yokos at Marham, they will be more fun. I will try to work out how to lower the front ride height before then, which will have the added benefit of reduced bonnet flap. How easy is it to self-fit new dampers and get them set up correctly? Mat is a busy man, and I would like to stiffen my front end before Saturday if possible (ooh! Matron!)

The power definitely drops off quite sharply around 4750 rpm, so I plan to RR it ASAP to try to work out how to improve that aspect.

Rear wheel arch is Peter-style surgery I think. It's clearly just that one wheel arch, as i had no damage around the left hand hairpin. I have an angle grinder to which I can fit the cutting disc. It's then just a matter of tuition fom himself on how to fill the gap thus created.

I didn't detect the issue with the rear brake, so will get Mat onto that. And I might stick some better front pads in soon.

Anthony we could drop the front down on the shocks on Saturday if you like. Might stiffen up the front a little! Ive got a spanner somewhere!

Have you got a K&N air filter, add it to your list if not, that will defo help top end suction!

It's your turn to drive mine on saturday, I know where you live!!!! Lol lol lol,

It will feel quite different, I have the pro springs on, yours is more forgiving yet also moves around more, it's all a trade off, me thinks different drivers go as fast, just in different ways, different set ups.

I thought your steering was really good on the toyo's really nice feel, a bit lighter than mine maybe.

We'll have to do back to back tests in eachothers cars and take notes!!

Peters car is a class example of what you need to do to cover most bases.

O e thing that becomes more obvious the more speed you carry is the need for a proper seat/ harness. I want a seat that fits the same holes in the floor so it can be changed back to the original for cruises.

In the dry I find the G's are such that I'm grasping the wheel to stay upright. Not clever if you want deft steering inputs.

From an enjoyment/ better driving perspective it's important.

All in time. We can have it all in time.

I mean, standing on the pit wall, fast cars out there yesterday, serious flyers and the tivs showed a good few up. Really pleased to have a tiv. Not many cars out there with such soul. I left there yesterday, I'm not sure how many oily hands had touched her, poking around! Looked like I'd broke down! Don't be so stupid.

I think my baby loved the attention, lol lol lol.

Skiver said he'd like an old Chim to just use as a trackday car, do it up, be ace.

I'm thinking of jacking the trackdays in and turning mine into a show car. Lol lol lol lol.

Is that the peculiar round headed spanner, looks a bit like a device for getting the lids off jars? I have one, just a case of where have I put it. You are welcome to come to mine on the way if you like to drop surplus stuff off and bacon-sandwich up, or we can meet at the track, either of which will give us adjusting time before kick off. Drivers' briefings at Marham rarely start on time, as they wait for everyone to turn up.

I don't even know where the air filter is, never mind what type it is!

Ah your aving me on again, see that massive hole at the front of the car, poke your head up and to the right of the said massive hole and you should see a big filter. If it's foam based it's, standard, K&N will have a mesh covered paper element. My guess is not as since I put mine on there's an audible difference in sound and power! Much deeper, throaty, simply drawing with lass restriction, I'd be excited to put one on yours if you hav'nt got one! Top end could be the cam if reading on here has rubbed off! Im guessing but yours flys from the moment you hit the throttle, mines more like a turbo, nought then all at a given revs. Well not quite but that sort of thing.

Your engines new, bit more tinkering and up to say 5600 your gonna stop at nothing. Fecking quick. Need bigger brakes mate, your getting faster not slower! Anthony get some pads yours are low already, they'll get hot really quick cos there thin and strip the pad material off them in an instant, end off meeting! I'm picking some up tomorrow and mine have more on them than yours, been to Donnington with what looked like enough pad depth, limping home by 10.30 am. Honda S2000 road pads! Not doing that again! Just get standard pads for now, my opinion but there ok and consistent and cheap.

Role on Saturday.

Not sure yet Anthony but I'll only bring a camp bed etc,

It would be nice to have sarny before we crack on.

I want to be there early yet I might not go out on track that much.

Tell you what if I get to yours we could have a butty as we set your ride height etc. Oh and yes it's the G shaped spanner. Just need to have a level floor but we can get it better anyway. Is the 5.0 lump lighter by any chance?

I am NOT having you on - I can guess where the air filter is, but I don't know for sure.
Pads - where do i get them and what make? Me and the car are 70 miles apart until late Friday.
Suspension lowering - yes please, as I cannot see me getting the new dampers etc in time. I have some level concrete at home, nicely out of the wind. I will have a search for the spanner, I think I know where it is but cannot check until tomorrow evening, so if you have one please bring it.
Sarny is all but ready to go in the pan! I will ask Alex if he wants to join us or go direct to the track. I am virtually on the direct route from yours to the track. I assume you have a sat nav? I will PM you the post code.

I have booked a rolling road session for 12.30 Saturday at a reliable and accurate RR recommended by Mat, just 20 minutes from Marham, so I plan to dodge out of the last hour of morning track time and go get me some graphs. Might tell me where the power and torque curves lie and help us diagnose what, if anything, can be adjusted. I/we will need to go out for fuel anyway by then.

I tried to get some Plastidip to protect your car from stones, but they are all out of stock until next Wednesday. So its a big roll of gaffer tape for the front end of your beautiful car, followed by glue solvent to get the sticky stuff off on Sunday. Its essential, we don't want to trash your lovely paint job.

I've got a little piece of leather I might see if I can tape it over the lower bonnet area. Yeah you fatt bd skiver, lol lol.

If you get the car jacked up and front wheel/ wheels off it won't take long, as we have all wk end I think I will take it easy on Saturday, play with my ride ht also I think I'm a little to low.

Anthony any Tvr dealer should mail a filter and pads out to you just give them the year and original spec for the pads , I'd def get a filter before rolling road, if you stuck a dirty mask on then ran up the road you'd see how important it is to have clear airways!

Make sure it's oiled up before they send it! Again it should be a 5 min job, he says to change it!

I've got a smooth bore L pipe for the AFM to plenom, I might do that at the track after a run with the standard one,see if I can feel the difference. Im still on road tyres so my runs are going to have to be smooth or I'll go home with bald tyres!

I'm not interested in pace just nice driving

I had my left foot on the brake in your car, err thought it was the clutch, nearly sent me through the windscreen!

I've got to start finding rhythm.

Boy was Snett an interesting track.

Well if all things come together it should be a good wk end for us and our cars.

I've got wheels off gunking the winter crud. Nice, need to paint up out riggers should have a few more years in them.

Speak soon peeps.

Right, you put your leather condom on the car. I have got some rolls of white gaffer tape for whatever that doesn't cover. And some tar and glue remover for afterwards, AutoGlym, proper stuff.
Next thing - I picked up some brake pads in an auto factor today, in case i don't have time tomorrow, forgot about mail order. They are Ford Escort, apparently, for my 4 litre brakes. I remembered to get the brake hose clamp, so will attempt m,y first brake change in 40 years. I do have some copper grease, BTW.
The filter i will order, my only issue is that i won't be at my home near Marham at all tomorrow, so i think I might find out what kind of K&N filter it is and try and pick one up in Cambridge, or ask Mat if he has one in stock.
I got a fine bladed electric cutter and some fibreglass paste (Isopon), so if there is time I might have a go at that wheel arch.

So we are set I think. Just need to pick up some fresh rolls tomorrow.

See you Saturday!

Yeah new engine it must have. If you get a filter we can pop it on, it's a must before you worry about your engine! my 4.6 sucks better yours will Alot better! Again brakes we could do at the track. Get everything working well on Saturday, major fun Sunday. I nearly purchased a gazebo but I'd look like Clarkson trying to get it there. I'm all set, nearly. Quick trip over to Tvr power first thing, pads, splitter, smooth bore pipe, and let the lads check her over.

Just cleaned all nuts shocks calipers then popped abit of grease on all nuts underneath car.

Even cleaned the already clean gearbox.

She really is spanking, better than I thought, forgot Dom changed most of the ball joints, rod ends etc, I just need new steering and suspension bushes a bit of painting and by eck shes a winner.
